anyone ever tried the kroger brand organic shredded cheese? i have bought it on several occasions (multiple bags each time) and there is something wrong with it! seems like part of the cheese is soft and looks melted to the bag.

each time i used the bulk of the bag so i didn't retrun it back to the store but i am never going to buy it again. i just wondered if anyone else has noticed this. the organic shredded cheese i buy that is namebrand or the whole foods store brand is not ever like this.

I've bought Kroger organic shredded cheese several times and have never had a problem--it has always looked like any other shredded cheese I've bought. However, I did go though a period of buying about 3 bags of shredded organic cheese from Trader Joe's, and after opening it it would quickly spoil. I returned it every time until I wisened up and realized all the bags had the same expiration date (which was still good, by the way), but I figured that maybe the box the cheese came in was unrefridgerated for too long and caused it to spoil too soon. Once they got another shipment in (with a later expiration date), I never had the problem again. Maybe something similar happened at your Kroger??

I believe most regular shredded cheeses have anti caking agents in them to prevent the shreds from clumping back together. I'm thinking your organic stuff doesn't have those agents, so it's clumping together and sticking to the bag. I've noticed that some store brand cheese packs run smaller than the name brands, so the smaller package might not stay cool as long as the name brands, causing them to clump... If it still smells/tastes OK, I wouldn't worry too much.
