With baby in the hospital

Maeve turned 3 wks today (well I suppose yesterday now that's it's so late) and she came down with a fever that went up to 100.9 before the on call doctor has us go into the hospital. Our two year old had what I think was hand, foot and mouth last week so we are guessing it's just viral but they wanted to do labwork and keep her for observation to be safe.

Poor little girl had blood drawn in both arms (because of a miscommunication between the doc and the lab tech) and then a urine sample taken by catheter. Neither one of us liked that... but she's sleeping peacefully now. I on the other hand am clearly not so I thought I would post here as I'm sure you all can empathize!

I hope all your little ones both in and out of the womb are doing well! And I hope that we get to go home in the morning!

Hugs for you and your LO. I am sitting here with my 1 week old as she gets increasingly congested. Her big sister had a cold this last week. I am hoping Neela doesn't get it.

Also...a few years ago, DD2 was hospitalized for what ended up likely being a cold when she was 18 days old. So I can totally empathize with what you and your LO are going through. DD2 had all those tests too as the Drs. ruled out more serious bacterial and viral infections. She bounced back right away and I am sure your daughter will too!

DDC crashing...Same thing happened with my second son! His brother had hand foot and mouth, and he came down with a fever. I was actually PRAYING that it was ONLY hand foot and mouth because my second son is a special needs baby and has lots of complicated medical issues.

Unfortunately for us the blood, urine, and chest xray all came back positive for bacterial infections, so we ended up in the hospital for a while treating pneumonia and a UTI. Ugh.

Hang in there!!! Don't be afraid to ask for anything you need...extra pillows, a blanket, a snack, a volunteer to sit with baby while you go to the bathroom, etc etc etc.

Thanks ladies! We ended up staying in the hospital for two nights. Luckily we escaped the third night that they would typically do. Maeve seems to be all better now thankfully. It was really no fun being back in the hospital! Luckily all tests came back that it was just viral but it was a bit frustrating knowing that and still being kept in the hospital particularly with our really high copay but I suppose it's always better to be safe than sorry with the little ones. Hopefully her brothers don't share any other colds with her!! (This seems nearly impossible but I have my fingers crossed!)

Great news, mama! Glad Maeve is home now.

I am so glad to hear that Maeve is doing well! I was thinking about you and your daughter, thanks for the update. Neela still seems to have a cold. She had a slight fever on Friday but not high enough to be admitted, thankfully! I am just not sure how to keep her healthy with two older sisters cuddling her constantly!

I hope Neela gets better very soon. And I am really baffled by how to keep Maeve well with her two older brothers. There is just no way I can keep them from hugging, kissing and touching her all the time. Once again our two year old was sick last night and my first thought even before the "poor Aidan" thought was "no! not again!" worried thought about Maeve. I know we aren't supposed to bring her crowded places etc but really how are we not supposed to go shopping, attend playgroups, swim class go to the library or the park etc with a 2 and 4 yr old. We all get so bored at home!
