General Toothpaste ingredients question

I've looked in the dental files, but not much information there.

I'm looking to get a natural/ organic toothpaste for (myself and) the kids. I use now Jason Fluoride free and SLS free, but it's way too minty for the kids.

I noticed that Tom's of Maine FF is popular - but it has SLS. Jason now has a regualr kids toothpaste, with some other sort of SLS in it.

The MI Paste has milk, and I keep Kosher, so I can't use it.

Home-made won't work, as neither will BS with a 3 yr. old!

What good toothpastes are there that work well, and taste decent for young children? I can add additional xylitol to it. (Especially since my 4 yr. old has 1 cavity now.

Thanks so much, Ana

Why won't homemade work?

I use calcium carbonate, olive/coconut oil, baking soda and a touch of salt with some spearmint oil (or lemon oil, or anise oil). My kids think it tastes ok, although it isn't sweet and sparkly!

I use Tom's FF, SLS-free. What I buy is the Cinnamon-Clove flavor. DS LOVES the taste. He won't use DH's peppermint stuff, but would eat a whole tube of this. However, I can't seem to find it on Drugstore.com or Tom's site. I wonder if it has been discontinued or something. I bought several tubes at once a while back so I haven't checked recently. Anyway, maybe you can still find some at the store.

Currently, I can only find Spearmint w/o Fl or SLS online. But maybe it is milder than the Jason?

We all use Spry toothpaste. It's a flouride free, SLS free toothpaste made with xylitol. It's minty but not super minty. My kids and I both use it and my youngest is sensitive about too minty and this one is fine for her.

We've been usinging a toothpaste made in Canada by a company called NewCo. It has a kangaroo next to the company name (don't ask me why.) It is a fluoride free toothpaste made with all natural ingredients and uses only natural flavour and stevia.

Here is the website. I bought it at our local organic store. Hope you find what you need!

I'm currently using Desert Essences Wintergreen toothpaste. Not strongly flavored; feels nice. I prefer FF and SLS-free and aim for that, but I am not upstairs looking at the toothpaste to say for sure.

When I ordered my neti pot (stainless steel), I also ordered herbal toothpaste and a copper tongue cleaner. All came from India and I love them! The toothpaste was just divine, but is all gone now. It lasted a long time, too.

I just switched my kids to tooth powder. Ingredients: calcium carbonate, baking soda, salt, tea tree oil, clove oil (small amount!). They're not as excited about it as they were the commercial paste with glycerin, but they're letting us brush their teeth anyway (ages 5, 3, 1). I call it the "salty toothpaste".
