hello :

my dd (3 yrs.) has a bad rash/itch all over her body after being in a chlorine-pool and being exposed to the sun. she is generally very sensitive to sun/chemicals etc.

i am looking for an anti-itch lotion that contains good stuff! is benidril ok? or any other recommendations?

thanks so much in advance!!

What about an oatmeal bath? You can buy them, but I think they're pretty easy to make on your own if you have oatmeal. That might soothe her skin. I've also head that baking soda is a good itch-relief powder, but I'm not sure how people usually apply it. Maybe it would be better diluted in water. I'd have to google that one.

I hope your dd is feeling okay today!

I have used Aveeno anti-itch cream for bug bites and such. Since this is a much larger area to cover, I wonder if you could try aloe vera gel. I think even the food grade type (which I think is labeled as "juice") would be good to apply to skin. I read a tip about freezing aloe vera in an ice cube tray and then using the frozen cube to apply to skin.

Hope that helps!

We like olive oil, among other things.

ETA: I have recently had coconut oil recommended to us.

Oatmeal bath: put a handful of oats (any kind) in a sock and tie it; run your bath water and keep the sock in the stream of water.

OOh yes! I'd forgotten about oatmeal baths! Although I probably should have made the connection since I recommended Aveeno cream.

Have you tried calendula oil? You can get it in gel form, it soothes itchy skin.

Have you tried Sarna? It's a lotion you can get at Wal-Mart. It may be on the shelf in first aid, or you may need to ask for it, as some stores keep it behind the counter. It's not a natural product, but it does help with itching quite a lot. Here's what's in it:

Camphor, menthol, carbomer 940, cetyl alcohol, DMDM hydantoin, fragrance, glyceryl stearate, isopropyl myristate, PEG-8 stearate, PEG-100 stearate, petrolatum, sodium hydroxide, stearic acid, water.

Good luck at finding something that works well for your child!
