My 2nd dd nurses far less than my dd1 did at this age and she often sttn. My af returned a couple of weeks ago, whereas it didn't come back til dd1 was 2 so I'm interested to know how often other toddlers nurse.

dd2 probably nurses 3-4 times on a good day and, maybe 1-2 on a bad day That doesn't include nightfeeds which vary greatly, some nights all night from midnight onwards, some nights not at all (hence the dreaded af)

I suppose i'm asking as I'm worried she will wean too early - I've had real problems with recurrent thrush (for 9 months) and I had to go back to work earlier than i wanted which have, i think, contributed to her not feeding as much as I would expect.

thanks for you replies

DS is about to turn one and nurses 5-6 times a day – waking up, morning nap, afternoon nap, late afternoon, bedtime.
He STTN pretty reliably now and rarely nurses at night.
I'm hoping that when I go back to work next month I'll be able to keep him nursing at least 3X a day.

My DS, 13 months, nurses 3-5 times a day (waking up, after breakfast, morning nap, afternoon nap, late afternoon, bedtime). He wakes every two hours on good nights to pacify, and has maybe one or two actual feedings. On a bad night, he'll pacify every half hour. zzzzzzz

I'm also a little anxious about him weaning, but I know I have to follow what he needs!

It depends what you mean. DS nurses until letdown & drinks 3-5 times a day but he has a quick comfort suck with no milk letdown many more times a day.

My ds is 23 months and the least amount of times he's ever nursed in a day is probably 10 times lol. It's way too many to count.

My dd is 15 months. She generally nurses 3 times a day - morning, before nap, and bedtime. Occasionally she'll wake during the night, or want to nurse after her nap, but not on a regular basis.

My 14 month old ds usually nurses 3 times a day - morning, before nap, and at bedtime. He STTN. On the rare occasion he wakes up in the middle of the night I will nurse him back to sleep.

Gosh, DS is 14 months and nurses about every 3-4 hrs, also when he is tired, gets an owie and many times in between

My twins are 13 months and I would say they nurse about 6 times/day and many times during the night (at least 3-4). I'm sure my older two had a similar nursing pattern and they weaned when they were 3 years old and 2-1/2 years old with gentle encouragement from me so I'm not too worried about early weaning with these two.

DD2 just turned one, she nurses ~5-6 times during the day and about 3 times at night.

12-18m is such a broad range! DD1 wasn't able to nurse much around 12-16mo because I was pg (well, she nursed often but didn't get much milk) and then nursed TONS after her sister was born. DD2 nursed for more than half her nutrition at 12mo but then was weaned by 14mo (due to lack of support and information after stupidly introducing a bottle at 13mo/not knowing how to stop a nursing strike.) DS wasn't down to "5-6 times a day" until around age 3.

BTW, I count the night feedings in with the "feedings per day." Since your little one is still nursing at night most nights, plus nursing several times a day, I don't think she's about to wean. I suspect she's just at a busy and distractable age, and is likely to pick up on nursing in a few months when the world is less "new". I'd also suggest offering the breast on those days when she's too busy to ask.

16mon. at least 3 times during the day.

She is nightweaned so after 5am we sometimes have an additional 1-2 nursings.
