3 yrs ago, dh told me that when i got to the weight i was happy with he would get me my first tattoo. so i finally got around to getting it done 9 days ago...i really love it! but sadly, it doesn't love me. i always knew i was an oddball to some extent, but now i know i am....i am experiencing an allergic reaction to the yellow ink. i am using benadryl cream and neosporin to hopefully draw out some of the color (the guy told me neosporin would draw the color out). so here it is....if anyone has any other insight, i would greatly appreciate it. oh, i am also taking an antibiotic just to cover my bases.

sooo, here it is.....

notice the yellow flowers....the only reddness i have is around the yellow flowers...all the other areas look great.

after doing some reading on tattoo reactions, i found out that red and yellow are the two most common allergens. i have never been allergic to a thing in my life, so the thought of researching ink reactions never even dawned on me.

Did you put neosporin on the tattoo before you had the reaction?? I ask because I found out that when placed on a large area like a tattoo for me I developed an allergy to the cream and had huge raised areas on parts of my tattoo.

As for what to do, the ink is there and you might have to let your skin settle. I think personally I would use a light soap and a gentle lotion to sooth the skin and take benadryl, otherwise I would mostly leave it alone.

My one one other tattoo that had a reaction (no one to this day knows why). I just lightly washed the area with handmade soap, and used lotion (I have since switched to a blend of shea and cocoa butter). I never lost color and never had a further reaction. Sometimes it happens, it sucks but usually it will clear up and if you don't scratch or disturb the area usually the tattoo is fine.

I hope a tattoo artist or someone else might have more info. for you, but these are my personal suggestions.
