Hey,

My DD is only 1.5 but we have encountered a few homeschooler moms that have organized field trips and such on STX. So people are doing it here but it is pretty under the radar - probably the case in most places anyway. I am interested in learning more about homeschooling and unschooling, but we're a ways off from having to make those decisions.

There is a Waldorf-inspired preschool here, and there are some crunchy moms here.

Does that help? What resources do you need to unschool?

I know this is an old post, but I am wondering if you moved and if so what you found out?
I'm expecting to move to St Thomas in August/September with my two little ones and we're mostly unschoolers as well. Did you find out anything about the law or programs?

Well thank you anyway!
Actually it won't be that much different - we already live on an island that's inundated with cruise ship passengers through the summer, this will just be a warmer one! I hope it will be a pleasant move, though to tell the truth I'm really nervous about resettling with the children, and at the prospect of moving back into a area where things like violent crime and violent storms exist - we're sheltered up here!

Unschooling in USVI?

We are moving to St. Thomas in august. As of right now we are an unschooling family. I have a 7 year old and 2 year old. I see you are discussing St. Croix. But, I was wondering if anyone had info about St. Thomas. I have also tried researching homeschool communities in the area. I hear some people are doing this. But, I could not find much info about it either.

i think St. Croix is too far away to participate in their homeschool community. I think my biggest concern is finding a social outlet for myself and my children during the school day.

moving to UVI

We are moving there as my partner got a job at the university. He is a math professor. Do you have the website or locations of where you found the info about homeschool communities in St. Thomas? I would love to have that research to know where to begin my search and how to find those families once I am there.

My Husband works for TSA, so he would just be transferring to the airport on St Thomas. Maybe we'll see you there though, even if just to visit your sister! ;-)

I'm actually going to St Thomas and not St Croix and I have a 7 year old boy and a 3 year old girl! We expect to arrive in late August or the beginning of September - perhaps we could stay in touch and arrange an outing for the kids?
