If you don't have the energy for the "Hitchhiker's Guide" books ... the ultimate ... then go for "A Confederacy of Dunces." You won't be disappointed.

I would've said "Catch 22" as well, but I have a problem with war books being funny. Which isn't to say that "Catch 22" isn't a classic and very funny ... it's just that it's a war story. Which is inherently serious. So ... ohnevermind. You get my point. It's funny with a pang.

I think all of Barbara Kingsolver's books are laugh out loud funny. The one exception being *The Poisonwood Bible* which has funny parts but is much darker in tone than her others. The Bean Trees is sooo funny!

Sellevision.

I can recommend a lot of hilarious memoirs, but that's the only novel that comes to mind right now.

DH is reading Good Omens right now and is laughing out loud quite frequently.

I love Hitchhikers Guide and Confederacy of Dunces too.

Oh, I forgot Thank You for Smoking, by Christopher Buckley -- hilarious!

I'll add another vote for Hitchhiker's Guide, too.

That was going to be my contribution. Hands down the funniest books I've read are by Chelsea Handler, David Sedaris and Jen Lancaster. I went to a reading for Lancaster's latest "Pretty in Plaid"... it's good, but "Bitter is the New Black" is by far my favorite of the bunch.

Yes! I wanted to add this one, but it's not a novel. Her other book (My Horizontal Life) is really funny too.

I'm also a huge Sedaris fan, though again none of his books are novels. He's extremely funny though. I also like Burroughs. After all the recommendations for Jen Lancaster, I'm going to give her a try.
