duck sauce

Okay, this is a tiny thing, I know. My daughter loves chinese restaurant duck sauce.
Have any of you found a better alternative that looks the same, even in the same little packets would be great.
I bought her some in a jar and because it has flakes of spices in it she won't accept it. She wants the peachy colored cheapy stuff that has no other visible stuff in it.
Have you found a health food brand or even restaurant brand that doesn't have the yucky stuff (i.e. artificial colors and preservatives).
I am avoiding making rice or chinese at home just because she will request the sauce, and/or refuse to eat the rice without it (yes, it is a phase).
: Thanks for any suggestions, mamas!

Isn't duck sauce essentially apricot jam with ginger, garlic and vinegar?

I'd guess that the flecks of spice she didn't like were the crushed red chilis, which can be spicy, and not every brand has.

If you google ""duck sauce" recipe" you'll come up with plenty of variations - I'd just play with them until you can get something close to what she's used to (maybe do a side-by-side tasting to get the proportions correct). Then write down what you did for next time.

And it should keep in the fridge for a good while.

Yes, this is exactly what duck sauce is made up of. Apricot preserves, rice wine vinegar, (other vinegars will work) ginger and garlic. (Some recipes add honey as well.)

Why don't you involve your daughter, and make it together to get it just right!
