What kind of exercise are you doing during your pregnancy?

I plan to take up belly dancing... but before that I am going to get my hips moving with a weighted hula hoop. I am also doing the standard Bradley Method exercises (we took the classes with our last pregnancy)

How do you get moving? They say birth is a marathon, shouldn't we train for it?

I've been an off and on runner for awhile now, although lately has been a little sporadically. I'm hoping to keep up the running for some time and then walking. I also lift weights 3 times a week. I really really want to maintain my fitness level this time and be as healthy as possible.

I was running 15-20 miles a week, but last Sunday's 8-miler (when I first suspected I was pg) was my last real bout of exercise. I did a mile walk later this week, very slowly and turned back earlier than I expected because I was so tired.

I hope to get some weights in and some walks and maybe even bike rides. I'm surprised at how fatigued I feel so early--especially given that I am in great shape. Hopefully I can walk a couple of miles today.

Walking because that's what I do normally. I see no reason to stop.

pushups and other core exercises in the morning and running ~3 miles 2-3x/wk. will keep everything up as long as i can. and then will get a prenatal dvd maybe.

I walk 10-15 km a day for work, so I will keep that up until I can't do it anymore. Last time was about 6 weeks before birth and then it was just too much carrying the mail and walking that far. Other than that, I may do some prenatal yoga.
I'm really hoping I don't gain 50lbs again this time, but I probably will since that seems to be what works for me.

I walk to and from work each day (about 2 miles total), and try to do a mix of exercise at least 3 days a week - running, eliptical machine, yoga, ballet, etc. I tend to get bored if I do the same thing each day, and I really need the exercise to make me feel energetic during the week.

This is my first pregnancy, but for those who have been through all of this before, at what point did you have to start skipping high-impact stuff like running? Is it still reasonable to think I can walk to work (albeit a bit slower) without getting winded at, say, 40 weeks? I'm completely clueless as to how this will all work.

I have a great walking routine. My ds is a stroller fan, and we live on top of a hill. I love Debbie Rockers walking dvd/cd, for days when the weather is bad.

4wks, 5days

rollergirl, and everyone else, what core exercises are you doing?

i'm building a regimen of core and ab specific things to do, but don't know if i should avoid too much twisting and pressure on my abdomen right now.

thanks!

I'm sticking to my usual exercise routine, except I cut out the ab work - as I heard you're not supposed to do this during pregnancy. I'm running anywhere from 6 to 10 miles per day. Stretching before and after, some push ups (like once a week, lol).

I've been thinking of signing up for a yoga class for pregnant women. Although I'm a runner, and I do stretch afterwards, I must admit that my flexibility is something I really need to work on. I figure, getting more flexible should help with pregnancy in general.

I was a little concerned with keeping up my running routine ... but the last marathon I was in, there was a 7 month pregnant woman running it. She was pregnant with her eighth child! And she said she had always run during her pregnancies. That put my mind at ease.

I have a pregnancy yoga DVD and a really really really old tape (I picked up from the charity shop for like 20p! lol) that is made by the YMCA for pregnancy 'aerobics' - both I will not start until I am in my second trimester though!
But - I don't have a car so we do a lot of walking!

what you're supposed to exercise!!! lol. wow. you ladies are awesome. i have never done any type of "regimen" after high school...i hate it. i should do it but things like a belly dance class or dance anything would be my style and a.) no gym membership and b.) how do you have the time! OMG! super moms already.

I do lots of different videos. Pilates, yoga, weights, aerobics... 6 days a week. As I get sicker, more tired, bigger, etc, I just modify the videos to accommodate how I feel. I do have 3 pregnancy videos that I use as I near the end of my pg.

I've been trying to walk 2 miles a day with my neighbor. Hopefully as we both get in better shape it'll will be a longer walk

Oh man - you ladies have me totally shamed! I worked out vigorously 2-3x/week until a couple weeks ago - I got totally floored! All I've been able to muster is eating & sleeping, which of course does wonders to my figure

Today I finally had the motivation to get up & go to the YMCA! We had such a great time, I think I'm finally feeling up to regularly scheduled life again. The last few weeks were one big pregnant time warp!

Anyway! Cheers to us - keep me accountable lest I end up face first in a big hot crispy blueberry pie... :

Walking and yoga! Maybe swimming for fun once in a while too. This thread is really motivating me to get started again. I walk 2-6 miles most days, and I even did some interval running last week. Walking really helps to ease my nausea. I did yoga throughout my last pregnancy and will do it again this time 3x a week, as soon as I figure out my new routine, since now I was to go to bed early AND sleep through my son's nap.

I tried to go for a run at the gym today, and after about 20 seconds (this is after walking a quarter mile warm-up) I felt like I was about to vomit....thus I walked for 2.5 miles instead. It's gotta be better than nothing, right?

That seriously makes me feel so much better - I only did 10m on the elliptical (which is not even CLOSE to as vigorous as running) until the feeling of chunk blowage became completely undeniable, so then I moved to a stationary bike - and after exactly 1 minute of that I switched to walking on the treadmill I've got to get into a class next time, because clearly I am not going to push myself at ALL otherwise.

Mostly I enjoyed a nice long shower to myself, complete with blowdry, and the nice exhausted toddler I picked up afterwards! Oh how I love the YMCA

I guess I just don't have the same "push it" brain when I'm pregnant as I do otherwise. I'm a seriously active lady - but man! Preggers gets my energy lowwww... all I want to do is snuggle inside and sleep!

Reading about pregnant marathon runners makes me just want to hide under a sheet for this next 40 weeks!
