What kind of exercise are you doing during your pregnancy? - Page 2

I plan on continuing with whatever my body can handle.

I usually do a loose rotation of cardion (3K on the treadmill), swimming, yoga, multiple exercise DVD's both strength training and cardio. Will rotate through those as my body feels able.

I did one of the cardio DVD's Thursday, was feeling great! Then took a nap with DD (we were on vacation) and boy I did not want to get up from that bed! But felt fine the next day. I will just play it by ear.

Me too. This is my plan. I am hoping to keep running as long as it feels OK, and after that walk. I want to do more weights and exercise in general this time around. I stayed pretty active last time (I am a ballet teacher) but I was too tired to do all that I had hoped to do.

Anna Getty's Kundalini yoga DVD (used it all through my last pregnancy), lots of walking, and I want to motivate myself to pick up swimming this time around.

I'm still running about 20 mi / week. It feels really, really good. It evens out my energy level and I think it helps ward off morning sickness (which, I admit, I don't get much of anyway so I'm not sure how much credit running gets.)

I just read "Exercising Through Your Pregnancy" and "Runner's World Guide to Running and Pregnancy." They both say exercise is really healthy and helpful all the way through.... although you may be running at half the speed at 40 wks, it's still doing you and baby good.

Oddly, I get out of breath and tired just walking up the stairs or walking down the street to the tea shop! Yet when I go out for a run, I fall into a comfortable rhythm and feel great the whole time (maybe it's the endorphins, or something else that doesn't kick in until I get up to aerobic levels.)

My friend is running the Seattle marathon at the end of Nov. I'm thinking I'll join her for moral support and just do the half. My longer weekend runs are about 10 miles, so easing up 13 over the next few months would be no problem. Of course, I've never experienced the 2nd trimester before, so I have NO idea what to expect in Nov!

Hey ladies! My sickness (& energy level) has gotten SO much better & exercise has gotten way more fun! Thank goodness - I really did not want to have another lethargic-sicky-pants pregnancy like my first.

Anyone experience ligament pain during or "cramping" (not the "bad" kind of cramping, but that lovely "normal" pregnant cramping) after exercise?

The rest of my body feels GREAT! I guess I need reassurance... anyone?

I might, but I'm not sure. I have definitely detected that sort of stretching type crampy feeling during and after a run. But, I've been pretty constipated lately and as soon as I start running, things start churning and by the end (or usually half way through) I've got to go. Pronto. So, I have all kinds of crazy competing action down there. None feel like the bad kind of cramps, but I have trouble differentiating intestinal from ligament. Sorry, not very helpful. But I think I feel them too.

constipation is awesome, huh? I pop psyllium like candy!

Yeah - I think it's ligament stuff! I'm already so uncomfortable - my abdominal seperation from last time really ripped right open. After 3 years of training I was finally able to do full sit ups, leg lifts etc. Oh well! At least now I know I can recover!

My husband and I take a walk daily (although I have to admit that it is way too hot right now to really get aerobic with it). I also do Wii Fit--usually boxing and step. I used to do the free run too, but I am way too paranoid right now for anything high-impact.

So I'm assuming that reaching for the bag of pistachios doesn't count as "exercise" in this thread, huh?:

I have a prenatal yoga DVD I'd love to start using again. Not sure if DS will let me, really. Also wondering about joining the Y so I can use the pool and the childcare, but $60/mo sounds like a lot to our family.

Oh no - reaching for a bag of pistachios definitely counts! So does my bending down to pick up my straw that fell out of my chocolate milk!

We don't have a Y membership - our cost for a membership would be $90/month (city rate, I guess) plus a membership fee of $140 (that my husband's company would pay).

Instead I pay the daily drop in fee of $15 + the $3 childcare fee (which I would have to pay even as a member)

I just started going (I was training at a martial arts dojo before) & unless I'm regularly going more than 2x/week it's not more cost effective to get the membership.

For now, at least, I like the flexibility, since I haven't tried all the classes/facilities & don't know how often I actually want to go.

I've got to say, though - our YMCA's childcare is freaking amazing. There's even a huge climby thing like at those uberMcDonalds!

uber-McDonalds.

No, Lancaster is still just a small city, with (thankfully) small city rates.

I'd love to go to the yoga class every weekday morning, and swim afterwards. That would definitely be worth $63/month. And childcare is priceless. I usually have DS with me even at work, so we both appreciate time apart, I think.

Great childcare is totally priceless! Yoga every morning would be divine! Syd is starting back to preschool next month - it's a small program out of a nice Lutheran church just north of the city - we love it! She'll be going 2 hrs 3x/week now - I'll probably hit up the Y more often, it's right down the street.

Lancaster PA? I lived in Bloomsburg PA for a couple of years - heard of it?

carley, my dh and i will be in seattle in a couple of weeks! mind if i pm you about recommendations?

ladies, i keep seeing things about separated abs and exercise..... can too much ab work cause this? can being too weak and lazy cause it?

we are so fortunate to have a YWCA a few blocks away that is small and clean and never crowded! and it's much, much cheaper than the YM in our town. i'm doing elliptical and weights, stretching and walking. thinking about asking a yoga instructor there about looking for interest in a prenatal-specific class.
I can't think much about exercise right now. I've been using the elliptical, walking, and gardening. A few nights ago I lasted all of ten minutes on the elliptical, before I got my BFP. So fatigue has already set in it seems. Maybe I'll just try to walk more. And do some yoga at home.

I have a friend in Bloomsburg! We're in such a pretty part of the country - Iwish it wouldn't be so bloody cold through my pregnancy. Again.

^That's crazy!!! What a small world! Not many people have heard of "The Only Town" in the Commonwealth!

ABSOLUTELY!!!

I don't know about ab work causing it - my giant baby caused mine It took me 3 years to be able to do full ab exercises.

chasing my boys around! i would like to exercise more (as i weigh almost as much as i did when i gave birth to ds1, right now!) i'd love to swim this winter but i hate being in chlorine when i'm pg...(or anytime!)
Right now, I'm doing only low impact stuff. So, I've cut out running. I'm still doing elliptical, hill walking and spinning. I love lifting weights, but I've been told to hold off on that until after they measure my uterus (I think that's what the nurse said?). I am high risk, with only half a uterus, so I think they are just being cautious. I'm dying to pick up the weights, though! It's been two weeks!

It's not that far from us. One of my college roommates was from Hazleton, so I was up that way every once in a while. It's pretty up by Wilkes-Barre. As long as you can ignore the coating of coal over everything.

Well, a few months ago I got into the habit of exercising 2 hours a day, 5 days a week. I did a 2 mile walk in the morning, then almost an hour and a half at the gym in the evening (cardio and strength training). I'm a little over 100 lbs overweight.

I've cut out the morning walk and will rotate cardio and strength training in the evenings. I tend to lose a lot of weight while pregnant and while that's normal and healthy for me, I don't want to do too much cardio since I have trouble getting enough calories in in the first place.
