French knots and cross stitching

Thread Starter
I keep having difficulties with cross stitch patterns that include these asinine french knots that call for one thread. Does anyone have secret tricks to make them actually stay put? No matter what I come up with they seem to pull through or look tacky.. If I use a regular needle and get past a thread of the cross stitch canvas you think I might get it in there? (can't seem to get that detailed with the tapestry needles) I'm totally putting off finishing a gift, and thinking of using beads or something just to avoid the hundreds of knots....help!

I agree. One thread french knots are near impossible! I probably would "cheat" and just use 2 threads.

I like doing French knots, but I can't imagine using one thread and not having it pull through.

I agree with the PP -- I'd either use two threads, or I'd attach a tiny bead instead.
