Comcast phone (and bundles)?

Do you use Comcast phone services in MA? Do you like it?
They have a really good deal right now so I'm thinking of switching over.

We have it and it works fine. No problems.

Be careful with those deals though. Sometimes they give you really low internet speed in order to win you over.

Doh! I just signed up for the lowest price bundle. Sigh.

The only thing I don't like about it is the voicemail service in that you have to listen to the whole message first before you can delete it. So if it's one of those automated stupidities...you get the idea. Otherwise, service works fine

tip: If you press 7 two times in a row (really quickly), the message will delete and you DO NOT have to listen to the whole thing.

Does anyone know if they do a credit check, first?

I don't remember them doing that, DoK. We would have been worried about that too when we got it.

Crossing my fingers.

I had comcast phone for a while and was happy with it. I ended up going to vonage to save money, though if you can get one of their new customer bundles, that's the best deal. I am okay with vonage too, but I can see just a slight difference in the service, vonage can sometimes be tinny in a way that makes it hard to understand the other person that I don't remember happening with comcast.

I don't think they do a credit check. They just shut off your service if you don't pay, so they aren't taking too big a risk there.

Yeah, the shutting off is one thing that worries me. It seems that if you miss just one payment, they shut you off! Wondering if I should see if they do direct debit. My son has a habit of taking the mail and putting it elsewhere. (I've found mail drawn/colored on and stuff behind his bed, etc. If I put the mail out if his reach, I end up forgetting about it.)

They claim you can give them a credit card to pay every month automatically (and that would work with a debit card too), but that's how I know how fast they shut off service, because I set that up with them, then happily figured it was getting paid when it wasn't, they only debited the first month or two, then somehow the whole setup got forgotten and I ended up with my service shut off. So be careful on that front - make sure it gets paid they are flakey. When service gets shut off though it gets turned back on as soon as you pay, its pretty quick.

What I do now is I just have an automatic bill pay set up with my bank and I just pay a little more than my regular bill (round it up to the nearest $5 basically), so I might be paying $1-2 extra, but I know it gets paid every month.

You can also get your statement emailed to you.

We've had Comcast for phone since they've offered it in our area and have never had a problem with it. My only problem was when we first got them - I didn't realize we had voicemail and had to set up to get it. So I wasn't getting messages from people lol. But that was just a miscommunication between my dh and I really.
I have a friend who has Vonage and she loves it. But her dh is in the Coast Guard so they move frequently. Vonage allows her to keep her number and not have to change it every time they move.

That's what happened with my gas! Hmm, maybe not such a good idea after all.
