The comments are mostly ignorant and despicable, but the article is nice. I appreciate that the head of the pediatric surgery association is so against it.

: Good for them! I hated this part though:

The authority has proposed that the issue should be legally regulated and that all municipalities should offer male circumcision for non-medical reasons. The Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions believes that a formal recommendation would be sufficient.
I don't see why they should be forced to perform them if they are against it.

There are American doctors who refuse to circumcise. I shadowed a doctor in college who was very anti-circumcision. He did refer parents who still wanted it done to a doctor who would do it, but he personally would not do them and discouraged parents from doing it. He was a pediatrician.

By the way I live in a relatively high circ. area in the Midwest. If there are doctors who don't circ. here, there are definitely doctors elsewhere in the United States. Who knows perhaps someday 2/3 of American doctors will refuse the procedure like the Swedish doctors.

The only other doctor who I've talked to about circumcision was the General Practice doctor who delivered my son. She asked if we were circumcising. We said no and she responded with "Oh, good. I hate doing them."

So the only two doctors I have ever discussed circumcision with weren't big fans.
