Sookie Stackhouse...??

I'm about 3/4 through the first Sookie Sackhouse book and I've got a question...

I already searched and took a look at the other previous threads, but there are a lot of posts with spoiler information and was afraid I'd read something I didn't want to know yet.

Here's my question...are all the books in the series pretty much like the first book? Or do they get more in-depth?

I put it down and picked up Sunshine cause I lost interest in it, but if you tell me the get more deep then I might pick it back up after I'm done with Sunshine.

::shoulder shrug:: I might just be having a hard time letting Twilight go.

TIA!

I have only read two of them -- but I didn't find the second one to be any deeper. If there was such a genre, I'd call it vampure fluff. Perhaps someone who has read on can advise?

They get better - I didn't *really* get into them until book 3. Then they get addicting. So much so that you have to order HBO so you can watch True Blood for your fix. Not that I would know or anything...

Lol. I think I could get addicted to the show...I've seen scant previews, but this first book was just fluff to me.

Easy read, though, so I may keep reading since you say that it's gets better by three.

::sigh:: I was just hopin' got be immediately sucked in...

I also found the first book hard to get into. I half-heartedly read the first chapter and returned it to the library, actually. But I tried it again, and kind of liked the first book. I didn't immediately read the second book, but I couldn't get the first one out of my head. I actually think it was the third one where I was like, "OMG, I LOVE these books!" Not that the first couple are bad - not at all. I just had a hard time getting into Sookie's head and her universe.

Not to spoil anything for you, but the later books do get waaaaaaay more in-depth. They're still fluffy, which is my favorite thing about them. But you eventually get the back-story on all the characters you've only met in book one.

I guess it depends on what you mean by in-depth.
Profound, the Sookie Stackhouse books are not, but they certainly are a lot of fun! Like popcorn for the mind.
It took me a while to get into book one, but now I also am addicted. I am just starting book 7. I liked book 6 the least. I don't want to put in any spoilers, but I felt like I'd missed a book when I was reading it.
I don't get HBO so I have to check out the DVDs for True Blood. IMO there is too much sex and violence. I mean there is in the books too, but the sex is less graffic and I guess the violence bothers me less because I don't have to see it. The show is not something I would let children see.......

The books get better! I mean, they don't introduce deep philosophical treatises or anything, but they're great reads. Like Twilight for grownups, sort of.

And do beware (as others have said)--True Blood on HBO is great, but verrrrry graphic.

I tried watching the show online but I couldn't do it. Too graphic for me.

I liked the sexuality in the Stackhouse books.. Twilight was rather unfulfilling in that regard. :

I am curious to find out who Sookie will end up with!
Who do you all like the best? Bill? Eric? Alcide? Quinn? or Sam?

Ok, I guess by "in-depth" I mean being more like Sunshine...have any of you read that one?
It seems to have more "meat" (don't really mean sexually graphic - though I'm not opposed to the racy side! Lol).

True Blood just seems to skim the top of the story without any descriptive background. Not saying that's a bad thing...sometimes all the mind wants is an easy read, but eventually I'll really want to get into the characters if I continue the series.

I enjoy being passionately obsessive about my books.

Think I'll go ahead and finish the series after I'm done with Sunshine.

In the long run, I'm positive Sookie will end up with Sam. Of course, I'm only on book 6 now, but I'm pretty sure that's why Harris hasn't found her someone to settle down with: she's waiting for the series end to identify that Sookie and Sam are going to be together.

May I politely/kindly ask for no spoilers in this thread?

I'm not trying to be snarky at all, but I've been avoiding the other threads just in case I wanted to read these....and I think I do...I'm still on the first book.

Do you mind?

I just finished four last night. I go back and forth on the series - I don't think they get much "meatier", but I do keep finishing them. Seems to take a couple of reads to get half-way but at that point I get hooked and finish in one sitting.

Love the show (which is how I came by the books), but don't think they follow each other all that much. I have to look at them as two separate things otherwise become deeply annoyed.

Off to check out Sunshine on the web....

IMO, Sunshine is a much better-written book. Sookie Stackhouse books are fun, but kind of fluffy. The continuity errors get to me sometimes, though. (Note, though, that I did finish each and every one.)

Then Maybe we can start up a Sookie Stackhouse Thread?
I did not think that my asking which of Sookies suitors people liked the most would be considered a Spoiler.

Understand, but I was worried that something might unintentionally slip.

There are other threads that go into detail...I only read them far enough to know they had spoilers and then started this one.

Sorry. I wasn't pointing fingers, just asking a favor.

LOL I loved the Sookie ones but I hated Sunshine. They are fluffy but they do get better as the series goes on.

I liked the show until I read the books. I've seen three episodes since then, and they are just not very good to me anymore, but maybe the series is falling off in the second season.

Part of my issue is that I don't really like to see people end up with vampires. Not that I'd join the FotS or anything, but for some reason I'd like to see her end up with someone more human.

Yeah, I was thinking I haven't liked the series of books as much since book 5, but book 7 was kind of interesting. I might have tried to read the short story that covered the stuff not covered in the novels. I guess one of the stories is in a collection called Bite
