Is this a good selection to start with?

We've decided to CD babe #2, due in Oct, and I'm trying to wade through all of the info out there. At this point I have a lot of the lingo down, and now I'm just trying to figure out what I want to get started with.

I'm almost ready to commit to a diaper service that provides up to 100 prefolds per week ($20) and a laundering system that I'm comfortable with. I thought it would be a good way to go for a few weeks just to get rolling.

They also offer a "starter" package of covers that includes to following:
1 eco-fleece cover (velcro), 1 Bummis Cover, 1 organic wool cover (velcro), 1 Prowrap cover, and 1 organic wool soaker. All for $72, no shipping. Does that sound like a good variety of covers to start with?

There is so much to choose from I'm feeling overwhelmed. I do have time so I can continue to shop around and figure out what I like, but there is no way to really know until I use them. That's where I get stuck.

NB poop is so explosive that I would prefer more PUL covers like Bummis, Thirsties, Proraps (rather than wool.) You want at least 6 covers. You are going to be bad at folding prefolds around the baby at first and so the poop will get on your covers and washing poop out of wool takes a while b/c it has to dry.

OK, thanks for the info. I think I'll just skip the covers from the service and choose a selection of my own. I noticed that you don't sell the Proraps, is there a reason why? What covers would you suggest for a newbie? I'm expecting this babe to weigh well over 8lbs. Also, do you suggest using a Snappi or just placing the diaper in the cover for a newborn.

I am a fan of the Bummis Super Brite or Whisper Wrap for newborn covers. If you snappi, it holds the poo in better than just laying it in. It is easier not to though!

I just didn't like the Proraps personally, and I don't sell anything I don't like. IMO, there are a lot cuter and nicer options out there. I like the NB Bummis Super Brite and Thirsties XS.

You definitely need a Snappi or the poop will get on every cover and you will need a zillion covers. You can look up prefold folds on You Tube to get help with that.
