Trainer Recommendations for older child

I've been searching for cloth trainers for my 2yo ds. I want something that opens on both sides (either snaps or aplix) in case of poo. I've tried Happy Heinys but they are huge and Bumwear but they don't seem any different than my pocket dipes. I found the thread on the the Sassy Cloth Diaper Trainers and they look good. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Also, how many would you recommend I get for a 2yo to get through 4 days and nights? Mostly, he'll only be wearing them when we go out and while sleeping or I have a sitter. He goes without anything on at home.

I just got a couple ECstore trainers and really like them. They're very trim and super absorbent. You can choose snap or sewn sides.

Little Beetle Learners are soft and absorbent but no waterproofing option.

How many you need depends on your LO. At 2yo, DS1 could easily go 2-3 days between misses. DS2 is very different and often goes through 3-4 pair of undies per day, with a random poo thrown in for good measure.

how about a pair of gerber plastic pants over the little beetles? or over anything for that matter....they are cheap too and chlorine free

Thanks. I have some Gerber plastic pants. I didn't find them very waterproof at all. Pee just soaked right through them.

how many misses do you typically have during an average day? are poo misses typical or do you want the snaps as a 'just in case'? the number of trainers and also the type would depend on those things.

snap-sided trainers always tend to be more expensive than sewn sided trainers, and are harder to pull up and down. so with a child of that age i'd probably go with more sewn sided ones, maybe grab a couple with snaps for times when you're afraid a poo might be imminent and you might not be able to catch it. i do love the ones from the EC Store, they are awesome - sewn sides and snaps, i have some of each.

you might also want to consider getting something that's not waterproof for at home, so if you do miss you can change immediately. those tend to be cheaper too. i like bright bots and imse vimse, bright bots are way cheaper though. if you don't have poo misses at home very often or at all, it's a much more economical way to do trainers, and easier to change immediately after a miss if your LO doesn't always tell you when he's wet.

Poo misses are the main problem, which is why I want side snaps. He poos and then goes to the bathroom. I have some Imse Vimses. They are nice but no side snaps and poo messes are nasty. There's no way that I've figured out to get sewn side trainers off without smearing it all over the place.

Here's where I ordered some. Sassy Cloth Trainers I only order 2-3 for now to see how I like them. I got some some waterproof and non.

Sassycloth are great and she makes them really fast. You can order a rainbow assortment and get one of every color. Snap/aplix sides are a good idea. I ordered during a period of no poop misses.

I'd also recommend getting the pocket style, otherwise they take forever to dry (I changed mine to pockets after the first time I washed one).

I'm pretty sure I ordered pockets. I think they are on the way. I got a shipping notice for something and the trainers are the only thing I remember waiting for.

ryan and i were talking about ordering trainers for hawk just yesterday. he's good at signalling, though occasionally we miss here and there.

we're also curious about how many to buy per day, and how many days then to buy. i'm looking at our diaper use right now (when i keep him in one), and it looks like we use about 4-5 a day. interestingly, that's almost always on "ryan's watch" for potty. lol but anyway, i figure i would need about that many trainers, and then perhaps do two or three days worth.

does that seem like too many?

About a dozen was the number I had decided on, too. When we are home ds doesn't usually wear anything, which is most of the time. I only need them for when we go out. I usually go 3-4 days between washes. I may only need around 9, though, since we don't go out much and usually aren't out for long.
