Reactions to Hib

Hello everyone. So today it was our 2 month appoint. at the doctor's and everything went great. We got only one vaccine (we won't be getting any more) and it's the Hib. I was wondering, any mamas out there who want to share their experience...What kind of reaction did you have from your dc the next few days after the shot?

So far, my ds is fussy but I managed to help him take two naps so far and he nurses fine.

Any comments are appreciated, thanks!
I'm really worried and I'm watching him like a hawk.

How's you LO today?

One mama's LO was diagnosed with viral menegitis days after getting the HIB vax. I believe she was told it was "coincidental" . I don't believe in coincidents like that.

I was that Mom who's DD came down with viral meningitis 4 days after her last Hib shot (3rd). Today she is fine ands seemed to recover 100%, but it was an awful time not knowing wether she had bacterial or viral while being hospitalized for 4 days. I had a sick little girl, but thank God, she is fine.

My DD is now 20 months old, and I've decided to decline getting any Prevnar shots for her.

At the time of her shot, me and my DF both had bad stomach bugs. We're not sure if she got sick from us, the vaccine alone, or a combination of both. I believe it was a combination of both.

I NEVER, NEVER, EVER want to go through what me and my DF went through.

Thank you for asking Marnica and Lollicup for sharing your story.
I'm so glad your LO is healthy today and nothing bad happened. Big hugs to you mama.

My ds is doing great. I was worried for a while yesterday cause he was obviously in pain and very fussy. But after his bath and nighttime feeding he went back to his normal self. He's been great since last night. Totally normal, the injection site is not red and he doesn't seem to mind when we touch his leg. No fever or anything else. Nevertheless, I keep watching him and will make sure we stay safe for the next week. . . Thanks for caring mamas.

That must have been really scary, mama; I'm sorry.

I just wanted to mention that Dr. Sears says that in the trials for the HIB vaccine, more babies who got the vaccine got a serious HIB infection than those babies who didn't get it, but they didn't get it from the vaccine apparently. The research he quoted states that "while the vaccine is beginning to work on the immune system, the immune system can't respond to a natural HIB infection for a period of five days. An immunized infant is therefore susceptible to catching natural HIB for a few days while her immune system is 'distracted' by the vaccine." So it probably was a combination of both having had the vaccine and whatever your baby was exposed to, but either way, what a frightening situation! I'm glad your DD recovered fully.

My 10 wk old had the Hib and rota today and this afternoon/evening he was in a lot of discomfort and just wanted to be held. It is not like him to be crying and fussy because he is usually SO happy and easy going. HE nursed fine and pooped a bunch, and is now sleeping, but it sure is scary when your baby cries in pain/feeling bad. I don't know if it is from the Hib or rota though. I usually have a strict 1 vaccine at a time rule, but i guess i faltered.
