My three year old can't stop itching! Please help.

My three year old has been suffering from an itchy rash on her bottom for several days. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me...She's been taking a warm bath every night, and even in the tub she's itching. She's using the washcloth to scratch...she's rubbing her poor self raw and is almost in tears over it. I checked her out (she says she's itchy in the "front") but all I can really see is redness from her scratching.

Yeast? If so, what should I do?

Thanks so much.

If it's yeast, stop the warm baths. Yeast loves moistness. I would try the california baby power. I think it's the calming one that has tea tree oil, calendula, arnica and lavender in it. So you're getting a lot of soothing ingredients that fight yeast and keep her dry. My youngest has terrible yeast infectiosn on his bottom that would cause him to bleed and stick to his diapers. This and a lot of naked time was the only thing that seemed to work.

Have you changed soaps you wash clothes with? Got a new soap for the bathroom?

I would suggest allowing her to go bare bottom as much as possible and be sure you are really rinsing her underware to make sure there are no irritants in them. Cotton undies, loose fitting.

Are you guys swimming/playing in water, wearing a bathing suit, if so ditch the bathing suit, nothing tight, nothing synthetic.

For me if I have a yeast infection I drink lots of cranberry juice, (it makes me pee a bunch so I'm drinking more water also), eat a bunch of yogurt and stay away from sugar... whether that really helps or not, it's soothing because in my head I think it helps.

we're having difficulties with mosquito bites, so not exactly the same thing, but for a temporary measure - an ice pack has been helping dd calm down when the "it itches!" and "it hurts!" are out of control and she can't stop scratching, settle down or fall back asleep.

good luck!

Aloe is also good for rashes.
