I am wondering if anyone refused the vit K at birth and still circ'd their baby? I am against the Vit. K shot but my husband is Jewish and would like to have a Bris form the baby... neither of us have a self or family history of bleeding disorders, so I was wondering if anyone has done this and if they encountered any bleeding problems.... Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Do you have a mohel to speak with?

I can't tell you from experience because my son's eyes were very bloodshot and we made the decision to give the Vitamin K despite not wishing it as a routine measure.

From what I've heard if you wait until the 8th day when the vitamin K is the highest(naturally) you do not need to get the vit k shot.

We had a bris with a mohel and refused the vitamin k shot. Since a bris is done 8 days after birth it generally isn't an issue. Also, my husband is not Jewish but I am and our mohel didn't have any problem with it.

Also, your rabbi should definitely be able to help you find a mohel!!

Plenty of Jewish homebirthers skip the shot and do a bris on the 8th day.

We had DS in the hospital - no vit K shot, and his bris 8 days later with a mohel. It's pretty common among crunchy Jews.

There is very little blood when it is properly done.

Your reform rabbi should be able to help you find a mohel who will perform one. You'll have a tougher time, and probably won't be able to have an orthodox mohel (which is the general preference because of their experience). The reform movement does certify their own mohelim, though, and they will definitely be able to help you. Just google "reform mohelim" and you should find one, but run it by your rabbi first.
