I'm bummed about agave - Page 2

I was just going to buy some yesterday but then I thought-why? I love honey and really don't use sweetener much anyways. I thiink I'll hold off on buying it.

Oh, gosh, that ad bothered me. Reason is, it's a FAKE! A parody of sorts. That ad was photoshopped. (Google it!) I think it was a poor choice to use it, it reflects poorly on the WAPF since it appears they thought it was real.

Okay - now twice today I've almost fallen off my chair! But I am really glad to know that the ad is/was a fake - even if I did believe it was real.

Ok, if all of this stuff is toxic, yet things like yeast breads require some type of sweetener, what on earth do you use? Honey, maple syrup, and homemade fruit syrups are all fructose as well...

I use honey in bread, because it's been around the longest. I'm not too worried about putting some sugar (ie, honey) in my bread, since the yeast digests a lot of it.

Fructose isn't inherently evil, it's all about moderation. Since HFCS, we've suddenly become immoderate about our fructose use. Compare it with alcohol - your body can do well with a modest portion of red wine on occasion, but there's clearly a limit as to how much is good for a body. Fructose, in fruit, is just fine in moderation. Agave is modern and high in fructose, and therefore should be used with caution.

Honey and maple syrup are fine! "All fructose is created equal" is a MYTH, don't buy it!

FWIW, Baby Darling has not spit-up ONCE since I cut out the agave! WOW!!! This gal was the spit-up Queen! As for me, I am having super-intense yeast die-off reactions. : I am so. sick. Ugh.

I have found Weston Price (his foundation) to be very informative, but had never seen this article! I just pitched the small bottle of Agave that I have had in my fridge for ages. I will stick with my stevia.

Thank you for posting the link!

Thanks so much for posting this article. I had a sneaking suspicion this kind of thing would be true. Old foods...it all goes back to very old foods.

Nor is it particularly dangerous to have a teaspoon or so a day in tea. Yes, honey is a better choice, but I don't think that small quantities of agave are particularly harmful either.

This is my feeling too. I don't seek out agave products as a healthier choice (we do honey, stevia, and maple syrup if we need sweetners...but I'd love to find a local source for rapadura.) I think agave is still probably better than plain white sugar, but it's still a processed food.

Personally, I'd feel minimally better about white sugar. The high-fructose products are harder on the body.

I was very upset when I found out how bad agave was. It is the marketing that makes me so angry "as a healthy low glycimic alternative" Great for diabetics too! (but don't forget that high fructose is actually a major contributor for diabetes!)
