can fleece be cotton?

I bought a remnant from Joannes that was marked as cotton, but it feels/looks like fleece. I bought it to make a baby sleep sack to replace the polyester one we used with our first dd. I want all natural materials, you know?

Anyway, can it really be cotton? Does fleece come in cotton? Or does cotton come in something like fleece? Is there a way to verify its fiber content?

I'm a total newbie with fabrics . . . but there's no point making this thing if it's just as synthetic as the last one!

Yes, cotton fleece is what sweatshirts are generally made of.

Verifying fabric content is as simple as doing a burn test.

Also, for cotton fleece, 1 side will be fleecey while the other will have the knit stitches, like the outside of a t-shirt.

Eek, sorry 'bout that. Are you looking to make a heavy sleepsack or a lightweight one? If heavy, then I would say try to find sweatshirt fleece at JoAnns. If lightweight, their knit interlock is actually pretty good. Here's some printable coupons

The interlock says it's a cotton/ poly but most of them burn 100% cotton.
