I read "Real food for Mom and Baby" and I know Nina said she ate canned salmon during pregnancy a few times a week.

Do you think canned is still really healthy?
I bought some today that is wild sockeye Alaskan Salmon.

Just wondering If anyone else eats it.

I don't like the taste of canned salmon personally, which is why I don't eat it.

Most salmon filets you buy were procesed in China.
Canned salmon, here in America. So, take that however you choose.

I do, mixed with crushed crackers, formed into patties, and pan fried in the tiniest bit of olive oil.

The canned salmon at the store I go to IS wild salmon. I think fresh is always better, at least taste wise, but if the canned wild salmon is all you can get/afford, it's better than nothing.

I think fresh and frozen is better than canned, but we eat canned salmon from time to time too - especially as salmon cakes with homemade wasabi mayonnaise. :

I think the wild salmon available to me is about $22/lb. So canned is really the only viable option unless it's a special dinner.

Canned is what's easily available and reasonably priced -- and I craved it something fierce during pregnancy, so I ate it, sometimes several times a week. That and anchovies.:

Yes i agree it's better than nothing. I picking up some fresh tomorrow that's 14.25/lb but not often that we do that.

I think the can isn't to bad IF it's a good brand

I love fresh salmon. We can only buy it when it's on sale now that we moved. I agree that as long as you make sure you know where the salmon was caught (farm or fresh), canned, etc. then it's just as good! I know there are a lot of American companies (you can always find one locally from Alaska too) so I'd prefer to stick with those.

When I made my salmon chowder I used a can of salmon and a little of the smoked salmon I bought (which wasn't cheap!).

Do you have a whole foods? They usually have 1 to 3 types of wild salmon ranging from 12.99 lb to 26.99 lb. We get what evers cheapest about once a week, sometimes less.

I don't like the taste of canned salmon but I'm sure its not too bad.

Trader Joe's sells wild Alaskan salmon for $6.99/lb - line caught.

Does anyone know of a canned wild salmon that doesn't contain bisphenol-A?

Dang, really? There's a trader joe's about 45 min away, but I never go because it's always a ZOO in there and dragging three kids through it gives me palpitations. Actually, just thinking of going into the parking lot puts me in a cold sweat. But maybe I should go once a month first thing - that price is unbelievable.

Wal-mart- $3.50 a pound for WILD Alaskan Salmon in the freezer section. Tastes and looks great and it's half the price of costco, which is another great option for salmon.

Does it say if it's line caught as opposed to net caught?

That's what I do, drive down once a month & stock up. It's only about 15 minutes for me though.

That's where I get our fish! I just bought our second shipment. We've tried their smoked fish and their frozen fresh, both impeccable.

Fresh salmon is just way too expensive here. We buy canned salmon and some time frozen if it's on sale. We don't have Trader Joe's or a Super Walmart that is near us so no affordable salmon for us. Canned is better than nothing.
