Are prefolds super bulky on a newborn??? if they are what do you recommend for the first month?? We are using a diaper service because my favorites are prefolds and I also want it nice and easy for me in the cold winter and adjusting to being a mom of 2 ohh and STBDH said okay but if I want the service will wash whatever I buy also so I just want to make sure that he is not all bulky and able to stretch ya know?

We started with prefolds when my little guy was 1 week old (and he was on the small side back then). We found that the infant size prefolds were very bulky and hard to use, especially before his umbilical stump fell off and while the belly button was healing...Because you have to kind of low ride the diaper to make sure the stump/button stays clear of the diaper. After a few days of messing around with folding down the extra diaper in the front (to get it to fit in the cover), I ordered some of the newborn size prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers (the orange-edge size). They were awesome. They fit perfectly in a newborn/x-small cover without any folding down. I think we used them until he was 4-5 weeks and then the infant size prefolds started working well for us. Now we use the newborn prefolds as burp cloths, so they're still handy to have around and I don't feel like I wasted $ on them even though we only used them as diapers for a few weeks.

Infants can be bulky on some babies, depending on the size. I plan on using nb prefolds for the first while, then switching to infant once he fills out a little bit. < 3 wks til my due date, now! Getting impatient.

Yeah, my LO was only 6 lb 5 oz at birth...little. I suppose if we'd had a 9-pounder the infant size may have worked better.

SunShineSally, maybe you could just wait and see how big the baby is and just try out the infant size? We were able to get by with the infant size while waiting for the newborn size to come in the mail...we just had a lot of leaks in the meantime.

I may just have the service bring the newborn then if infants tend to be bulky I did not CD my Ds until he was about 6 months so I have no clue about newborn CDing thanks mamas

Here are some pictures of my LO in a prefold if you want to see how they look

Three weeks old in a newborn orange edge from GMD and a BSWW in newborn

She was about seven lbs in that photo

One month old in orange edge and a BSWW in small

Another month old pic in an orange edge with a snappi

With a snappi, it's bulkier because I use just a newspaper fold with a cover and I think that's trimmer (or at least trimmer through the legs)

And two months old in an orange edge, small BSWW

She was ten pounds at two months
