What are you giving up?

Obviously, I'm giving up alcohol, although I will have the odd glass of wine around the holidays.
Other than that, I don't worry about it too much. I am still having coffee, although it's not tasting so good these days.
And I think there is something I should be remembering about soft cheese:

Oh yeah, and I'm giving up cleaning the cat litter

Coffee and cat litter.

I don't drink or smoke, so no trouble there. But I do miss my coffee.

Smoking, wine, diet soda. I've moved from half-caf coffee to 1/4 caf....I just can't give it up!

Caffeine
Migraine Meds
Lunch Meat
Working (I am so tired and I can't concentrate)

So far caffine, but I miss my coffee. I think I may cave like once a week.

Remind me about lunch meats, is something like just plain turkey breast ok? Not that I really eat much of it anyone, but once in a while we go out for sandwiches.

Oh, and I need to give up the cat litter.

caffiene. Lunch meat. Cat litter. Tuna. Do I have to give up shellfish? Is there a rule on that?
Gave up cat litter. Yea!

Also gave up soda, although I never went back to drinking much of it after DD.

And I guess I'm going to give up cold cuts (or heat them to steaming) again. That's my least favorite part. It puts such a dent in my eating habits!

Oh, and does anyone know if Truvia is okay? I LOVE vitamin10s, but I don't want to drink them if they are iffy.

Isn't any kind of cheese fine as long as it's pasteurized? I seem to remember that from last time but not sure.

I'm giving up most caffeine-I stopped drinking coffee and am just having one cup of black tea in the morning for now. Besides that, tuna, lunch meat (so annoying) and sushi...guess that's about it.

ack! What's wrong with lunch meat?? (besides the fact that it's lunch meat)
If it's not heated to steaming, it can carry listeria which pregnant women are particularly susceptible to and can be deadly to the fetus.

I have given up just about anything that could cause problems with the pregnancy before I got pregnant... due to other health issues.

I never smoked or drank, and I don't do caffeine, unless you count chocolate soft cheeses are ok as long as they are pasteurized and the reason you want to avoid lunch meat is for the nitrates, which isn't present in most sliced deli meats. Usually it is in those processed bologna, hot dogs, etc... just check the ingredients for nitrates Oh, yeah, there is also the Listeria thing, I never think about that though because I always nuke my meats before freezing them in individual serving sizes for sandwiches...

The frustration with listeria for me is eating out. At home I don't mind making paninis, but giving up Subway and turkey clubs at Crispers... yum.... *sigh*

and don't forget that listeria can be present in soft serve ice cream. A lot of people don't know that.

drinking, kitty litter, and sprouts. am pretty sad about the sprouts, because mmmm. but we're vegan so i don't have to "give up" the meat or the cheese -- already don't eat 'em. and i don't do caffeinated drinks either, so *shrug*. but yea i'm sad about the cold glasses of white wine i am missing out on right now with this hot humid weather. ah well.

well, there's definitely nitrates in my salami, lol! I guess I'll just nuke it tomorrow and then give it up for good. I don't know, I just did a bit of reading and the risk of getting listeriosis seems very very small...I can't remember if I ate lunch meat last time or not. hm.

nuking doesn't take care of the nitrates... just so you know
post #18 of 52
I've given up sushi, which I adore (though I still make my own rolls at home). Also my glass of white wine (I forgot I'd be pregnant over Christmas!). What's driving me crazy right now, however, is the lack of sinus or allergy medications. I cannot BREATHE, and it's driving me nuts.

I still eat lunch meat, and I don't nuke it. But I only eat previously cooked lunch meats, so no salami.
