I think I want a SSC... beco or ergo?

Which would you pick? My baby is two months old now. I want the carrier to last... forever.

I have both and love both, but if I had to choose just one, I'd pick the Ergo. That said, I didn't have either with a LO as young as yours, and that might sway me to a Beco b/c of the internal seat. As for lasting forever, I prefer my Ergo with my heavy 2 yo.

I don't think you can go wrong either way. Beco's are prettier (though my ergo is embroidered) but they are also a bit more money.

I have an ergo as well & LOVE it. I originally wanted the beco (because it's prettier) but the saleslady talked me into the ergo. The bonus of the plainness of the ergo is that dh likes to use it as well (& I don't think he would if it was "pretty").

For what it's worth pretty much all the mom's in my LLL group use the ergo.

The extra piece (And therefore extra step) in the beco would drive me batty.

Truth be told though I can't get the SSC love. I keep trying, but my MTs are easier.

I love my Beco. The body is 3 inches longer than the Ergo -- I'm not sure how useful that is in actuality, but it seems (to my nonscientific mind) like it'd support their trunk more when they're older toddlers. I agree that Becos are nicer looking -- Ergos always look all bunchy to me, whereas the Beco has sleeker lines. We got the owl pattern and my DH wears it as much as I do.

I would like the body-to-body contact of the Ergo though -- the extra piece of fabric in the Beco makes me hot sometimes.

I love love love my Beco....and it's pretty too. DH will wear it even though it's pink and brown paisley. BUT I have the 4th generation model. I have also tried the butterfly model, but did not really like the insert...it was ok when dd was littler but it won't be too long before you won't need it anymore.

You can't buy the 4th gen new (unless someone still has some leftover stock) but you can find it used pretty regularly, esp. if you are not too picky on prints.

I tried out both in a store and found the beco to be more comfortable than the ergo. But everyone is different. My suggestion would be finding someone to them out with your child.

I love the Ergo! Tried so many carriers out but this was by far the most comfortable, and I have friends who are still using it for their 2 and 3 year olds. It's value for money because it lasts so long! Good luck finding the right one for you

I love my Beco! I didn't get it until DD was already 12lbs and I don't know how I survived so long without it. We are still using the infant insert (which the Beco comes with, with the Ergo you have to buy it separate) but are about to graduate to without. I get sooo much more done and DD is much happier now that I don't have to put her down all the time.

I had tried various slings, but DD didn't like them... at all!

One more vote for the Beco! I have the old version of the Beco Butterfly. I'm a REALLY big cheap skate, but it was worth every penny for me!

Love love love my Beco.

We have the owl pattern too, and DH wears her in it more than I do. While I can see that the extra step might frustrate some, for us, it means my DH is much more comfortable wearing her. He's not comfortable doing a toss onto his back (whereas it doesn't bother me at all) so the ability to secure her then put her on his back means he wears her a ton.

With the Beco it's really great to be able to pass them off to someone else without taking them out or waking them up.

I love, love my Ergo!!! Mind you, my ds didn't like it until he was 6 months old when he could straddle me. I used a chunei and a maya wrap during his first 6 months. I've never tried a Beco so I cannot say yay or nay to it.

I have to say that my husband and I find it so easy to use. Well, worth the money.

I absolutely love my Pikkolo. It's a SSC that is similar to those two. It works FF, tummy to tummy, hip, and back, and comes in cool designs. The crotch area can be cinched in for smaller babies.

I got it from motheringtao.com and they're awesome too. My dog chewed up a buckle and they sent out a replacement for free.

Love the ergo but the becos are so pretty.

I have the ergo and we love it but I want a beco too. The beco feels less bulky, more streamline and prettier. My DH uses the ergo most and I think I'd use the beco more. I also really like having a detachable hood so I'm really wanting a beco. Why did they have to discontinue the sara print?!

I have an old beco 4th gen I love and a beco butterfly I don't like. I would look for an old beco or an ergo, personally.
