BBQ sauce recs or recipe?

I looked at the label of the bbq sauce in the fridge last night. Ugh.

Any alternatives that aren't so full of...well, pretty much everything on the Foods To Avoid list?

I'm willing to try making it. Or premade version would be fine as well. We like a tangy version like traditional Famous Dave's.

Actually, once H is gone, it won't matter too much...DS and I can get used to new flavors. So just a BBQ sauce alternative would be awesome.

I made this recipe the other night, and it was wonderful. I used it in the crockpot with a large cut of pork to make pulled pork BBQ. The sauce got a little "roasty" in the slow cooker, but delicious nonetheless. I used Trader Joe's ketchup, our own homemade seedy mustard, and Annie's (I think) Worcestershire sauce.

How about this....just tweek it until it tastes right.
a can or two of tomato paste, some mustard, maple syrup, a touch of liquid smoke, a touch of molasses and some of the spices that are in the bbq sauce you like. I'm sure you can find the recipe or ingredient list online. If it's too thick, mix in a little beer or kombucha.

I used to make emergency bbq sauce with ketchup and liquid smoke.LOL It's not very difficult to get the flavors how you like it.

Thank you both! Thos are good places to start!! I think the family won't cry if we expiriment with BBQ sauce for a while. Even if it's not quite right immediately...there's nothing in the ingrediants that taste bad!

What's in liquid smoke anyway? I've never actually looked. We use it every so often in burgers if we're not grilling.

Thanks!!
