Poop goes in the potty...

Ok...so I need some suggestions. We have a bit of a situation here:

DD, who will be 3 on the 15th of August, has been wearing underwear now for about a week (except at night). At first, she did really well with it...no accidents at all. Then, she started pooping in her underwear, even though she talks about poop going in the potty and not in her underwear. She asks to wear a diaper, but I really don't want to go backwards, yk? We did just have a new baby (June 6th), so that might have something to do with it. IDK...I'm trying really hard not to push her too hard, but I also know that she is ready, by all appearences...

Anyone else experience this? What are all of your PL wisdoms...please share.

If she is asking for a diaper I would give it to her.
IME if you don't listen it will turn into a battle of the wills.
DD trained herself at 20 mos with no accidents day or night.
DS arrive when she was almost 2. she wanted diapers and I didn't think she should be back in them when she was capable of going in the toilet.
She started having pee accidents that got more and more frequent until she was peeing everytime in her underwear and the occasional poop in her underwear it just got worse and worse. When DS was about 4-5 mos I gave in and put her back in sposie trainers. Within a few weeks she had had enough and started going on the toilet again.

yes to this! Let her be in control. If she is going to poop in her pants, it might as well be easier to clean - so I'd put a diaper on her. Almost 3 is still pretty little.

My 4 yo poops in his pants. It's not all the time, but enough to drive me crazy! But what can I do? He knows where poop goes, went well for many months, then regressed when we moved out of state, then again when I was in the hospital, then did good again, then regressed again, and so on.

I've tried all kinds of things, but the truth is that while I think he is ready, and know he CAN very well poop in the toilet, for whatever reason (control?) he is NOT fully ready. All I can do is (try) and be patient with him and remind him to use the toilet. He won't poop in his pants forever, I won't have to send him to high school in a diaper, ya know?

Hopefully for your DD it won't be as back and forth as it has been w/my son over the past yr and a half. But we've had a lot of changes going on and I just have to remind myself that eventually he will go on the toilet 100% of the time, until then, I have to deal with the mess.

You could try the diaper-to-potty step by step program. let her poop in a diaper on the potty. then try letting her poop into an open a clean diaper in the potty bowl.

the hardest part of the whole potty training ordeal, is to be mellow about accidents and just let the kid take the lead. It's like learning to walk, you can try to support the process, but you can't worry over mishaps & setbacks.

good luck and best wishes
