We took DS to a new pedi last Wed. It had been 4 1/2 months since having a WBV... the new pedi heard a heart murmur (no one else has ever heard one)and, combined with DS's small size, he referred us for an ultrasound.
DS has a very large atrial septal defect. The right side of his heart is enlarged and he already has some pulmonary hypertension. Next Tuesday, he will have a diagnostic heart catheterization to analyze the pressures in his heart. And then we will schedule open heart surgery to repair the hole (which is 50% of his atrial septum).
I keep going back and forth between terror and calm resolve to do what needs to be done.
