This website, posted by Metasequoia, seems to answer your question, as well as mine. But not in a good way! http://www.siteground217.com/~weston...il-manufacture

What About Fish and Krill Oils?
Fish oil and krill oil, sold as supplements to provide omega-3 fatty acids, are by-products of the fish and krill meal industries. They are produced in large factories humming with the noise of conveyer belts, grinders, separators, extractors and dryers. We provide two descriptions of fish oil manufacture and one of krill oil manufacture, and let our readers decide whether or not they want to consume these products. Remember that omega-3 fatty acids are very fragile and highly subject to damage when exposed to heat and oxygen.

Has anyone heard of Sundown Fish Oil gels?? I just bought some yesterday, but I didn't realize there were such differences between all the different brands.

Just to add to the confusion- I read that "fish oils" and even non reputable brands of labeled what type of fish used oils can be harmful. The reason is some companies use seal oil as a cheap filler, and seal oil is very toxic.

I would like to know what would be a good fish oil to have in addition to my cod liver oil. I would trust the New Chapter Salmon oil, but it is PRICEY!

Good quality grass fed animal products, (meat, milk, an eggs) have lots of DHA. So if you don't do fish, stick to other good quality animal products.

The recommended amount for EPA and DHA is weight-dependent, and I have completely forgotten how to figure it up, but for me it's about 3000 mg per day.

I used Vital Choice's salmon oil for a while, until I tallied up how many I'd have to take in order to get enough EPA and DHA... :
That's the one that I use (the NSI). I was wondering if it was a good one. From what I've read, NSI is very reliable, but it's so hard to know for sure about any of them!

This is the one we are about to start. I am using a fish oil because we need efa's for reducing inflammation.

I haven't bought it yet, waiting for our beginning of the month check first.

I plan on doing this on top of FCLO. I think they do different things for your body.

Sounds great! But the soy thing has me confused. It says free of soy, but it has trace amounts.

Now i've been reading that CLO can go rancid which can be carcinogenic! ugh... how do you know if it's rancid and how can you prevent it??

I've been using New Chapter's WholeMega salmon oil for a couple months now and am loving it! It also seems to have had an anti-inflammatory effect on my entire digestive system with great (and regular ) results! I'm not, currently, taking CLO because I'm uneducated as to the difference between it and the fish oil I'm already taking...guess I should go do some additional reading! For those of you who choose to try NC WholeMega, I get mine from iHerb.com which often has NC brand supplements for 40% off...love that.

Ok, so I'm overwhelmed with the amount of brands out there. I just bought Sundown Naturals on sale for 7.99 and if you bought one you got one free.

It says on the front - Purified to eliminate Mercury. The back says:
1000 mg Fishoil
EPA, DHA, Total Omega 3 Fatty Acids 300mg
Other Ingredients: Gelatin, Vegatable Glycerin, Mixed Tocopherois. Contains fish (anchovy, mackerel, sardine) ingredients.

I am very new to this, and want to make sure I have a good capsule. I am BFing so it's a big concern and in all my online research I can't find much about this particular brand. I was laid off in December and am currently searching for work, so we don't have much extra money. At the store I tried to find one of the least expensive ones that said it did not contain mercury.

What do you guys think? Does this seem like a good one??
