Another picky pants question, this one is about sizing

I just finished my first picky pants for my 16 mo. old and am in love!: I'd like to make some for my friend's baby and am aiming for a 3-6ish month size. Would you do a small or medium? Her last baby was small to average size.
Thanks for any thoughts!

My 50th percentile baby is in mediums at 4.5 months. She moved into them at about 3 mo b/c we moved up in diapers to accommodate her chubby thighs and then needed a bigger cover for the bigger diaper.

Thank you!

How small is small? My kids were 6'10 and 6'13 respectively and can wear newborn sizes for 4-6 months. I generally lengthen ALL lengths so that part tends to fall between newborn and small.

I would do mediums. I wish there were a size between medium and small. My son is 1 month old, weighs about 11 lbs. The smalls fit him perfectly right now, but he'll be growing out of them before the mediums fit. The mediums look so big! If you do a small you might want to add in inch or two to the inseam and do a cuff which looks good rolled up, like ribbing or seed stitch. That way they can wear them for longer.

I'd do a small, because I find that generally T's patterns run big. River was in newborn picky pants for 2 months, and was 9lbs at birth. He didn't move to smalls until we upgraded to the seriously bulky birth to potty nappies, and that was mostly because we needed more room in the rise. BUT I do what Jessie does and add a bit to the inseam and put a cuff on.

I would do a small, lengthen the legs a bit, and add a cuff too.
