uncomfy ring slings

A friend of mine gave me a used (in great condition) MayaWrap ring sling. I'm usually a (Moby-style) Wrap kinda person, but I've been trying out the ring sling because of how quickly it goes on. While I realize that I have not perfected any hold yet - I find it *really* uncomfortable. My neck, shoulders and back hurt within two minutes of carrying my less than ten pound baby. Am I the only one? Could I be doing something *really* wrong with the carry? - I've watched the videos on the website...

With my ring sling I find I really need to be sure to spread the fabric out over my shoulder (like down the arm) & make sure it's not digging into my neck. That really helps spread out the weight.

ring slings make me hurt too, no matter how much i adjust it. it drags my shoulder down something terrible. my kozy makes my back hurt too, but not as bad. i've been told it's because i have a bad back.

Are you able to post a picture wearing it? It'd help a lot to see the carry you are doing.

It could just be the way you're wearing it, or it could be that a different shoulder style would be better for you. That's a small baby and a short amount of time to be putting you in so much pain, though!
I have TMJ, so one-shouldered carriers cause me bad neck/jaw/shoulder/head aches.

Is it the unpadded maya wrap? That one is a bit uncomfy.

Watch some tutorials on youtube. IME what usually causes me pain is either the fabric isn't spread out over my shoulder and back or the baby is being worn too low. The baby's butt should be at your belly button or above and the baby's head should be up near shoulder level.

I'm not savvy enough to post a picture, but I've watched some youtube videos and the videos on the MayaWrap website. I've threaded the wrap correctly, it's spread over my shoulder and back, the baby is as high as she can get without bumping into my chin... is it possible it's just an issue with my back/shoulders? I don't have any issues with my stretchy or gauze wraps though...

Yes, it's totally possible. Some just don't get along with certain carriers, even when worn correctly. Sounds to me that ring slings and you are not going to be best of friends anytime soon. But, you've found you like your wraps, so I'm thinking you are totally a two shoulder support mama.
