Swine Flu Vax - Page 2

I just had another thought...does anyone know of anyone personally who has the swine flu? I can't think of anybody in our community.

According to my friend, who is an epidemiologist, the swine flu vax has NOT been tested enough for pregnancy. No one in our household will be getting this nor the regular flu vax.

Make sure you do your own research.

I don't normally get the flu vaccine. I'm not sure about this one. We have swine flu in our province, it was one of the first outside of Mexico, and of the people who have been hospitalized, there have been a large number of pregnant women. And they have been quite sick.

There are some unusual features to swine flu, and I would not be willing to bet that it might not become very bad - i guess I wouldn't be surprised either way.

I find it hard to judge how much more risk one type of flu vaccine might have to a pregnant woman than another. So the fact that this one is being rushed - I'm not sure how much weight to put on it.

For now, I;m going to keep an eye on what is going on in my province as far as numbers and how ill the people are, especially pregnant women. When the vaccine is available, I'll make a decision.

I don't get the reg flu vax and wouldn't dare get this one either. Besides all the reasons mentioned above there is another very important one...

Pregnant women are urged to avoid high mercury food like tuna, and other certain fishes while pregnant but now they are pushing for pregnant women to get not one, but two doses (the CDC thinks that the full vax will require two doses to be affective), of a vax that contains thamerisol (sp?).

I just don't get it.

They always do testing on stuff like that around here. I heard a commercial on the radio looking for volunteers for allergy vaccines one year.

Eh, I think we're gonna pass on this one.

There have been more than a few swine flu cases in my area. One of my neighbors had it (it went around at her high school) and at least 2 more have had exposure to it at their workplaces. I live in a densely populated urban environment, use public transit, and volunteer in a preschool classroom (which, if last year was typical, is one big teeming petri dish!) I also got sick more than once with colds, etc., in my 2nd and 3rd trimester last time. I haven't made up my mind yet, and won't until the vaccine is actually available, but I am leaning strongly towards getting it. Come flu season, I also plan to wash my hands even more religiously than usual and get lots of sleep and eat well.
