One-size Diaper Question

I'm getting ready to order some BumGenius one-size diapers, which I figure we'll begin to use around the 4 month mark.

How many diapers would say is necessary if I'll be doing laundry every other to every second/third day? I have time and don't need to build the stash right now, but wanted an idea of how many diapers do you all go through a day?

I know it will be less diapers per day as the baby gets older. Thanks :

18 diapers should get you two days at that point.

Having said that, I don't recommend buying all one type of diaper if you don't have any experience. I recommend buying one of each type you like and trying them before you commit to a whole stash. It is a big waste of money to buy a bunch of a diaper, only to have to sell them.

I'm wavering between ordering 3, 4 or 6 of these kind.

They're the BG OS organic with Aplix. I'm finding them on sale on a few sites, I guess rumor is that they're being discontinued so I feel torn -- what if I end up loving them and have too few

I started with 18 BG OS dipes, and they worked great for laundry every couple of days. You can increase your stash as you go along if you need to!

I agree with pp about not buying a whole stash of one diaper.
BGs are shorter in the rise then some other one size diapers; my guy grew out of them before he was out of diapers - they didn't go high enough in the back for him. I was so disappointed b/c I had 12 of them.
HappyHeineys one-size worked for us all the way through to potty learning.

Ditto. DS is bigger than average, but he outgrew the rise (and maybe thighs, too. Can't remember) of the BGs at 3 months. I'm very grateful that we only had 3 of them. I didn't like them very much to begin with.
As far as OSs go, we've had better luck with Haute Pockets and Mommy's Touch.

We started out with 36 BG 2.0s and I shortly bought another 4 off of a momma on here who didn't like them. As I recall, 36/40 lasted us 3-4 days early on, though now we can go nearly a week (think 5-6 days) between washes. I'm planning on ordering 24 new BG 3.0s here in the next few days, as we love them. They're super easy for anyone and everyone to change - come on and off like a sposie, and have been pretty darn easy to keep clean (I wash once on the longest setting I have on HOT/COLD with an extra rinse using allens naturally deteregent and spraying the poopy ones with Bac Out and have minimal stains). My only complaint is that after nearly 2.5 years of constant use, some of the 2.0s legs are getting a bit stretched out - whcih is why we're getting some new ones for DS2!!

Oh, and we only had to use sposies for the first month before DS started fitting in them.

It is not a rumor and they are discontinued. For good reason, too - the aplix just plain did not hold up over time. The snap version, however, is a GREAT diaper, and totally worth buying 6 or 12 of.

We were planning to order some of both and then decide what we liked more. I've heard some say they prefer the aplix because they feel they get a better fit with them.

I'm willing to buy some quality velcro and replace them on the diapers if the need arises.

ugh... now the decision on how many to buy I'm trying not to be set on using the BG OS organic, but that's really what we're leaning towards making a stash of at this time.

Velcro does give a more customizable fit, true. This velcro was just bad, though. If you are handy and can replace the velcro, it might be a deal!!

My velcro has held up pretty well on them all except the 2.0 - all the 3.0 and organic ones are still pretty decent and the only reason they are worn some is the times when someone else has changed them and we don't double check when going in the wash that the laundry tabs weren't folded over.

I do love using our BG 3.0's and the Organics - but the Tiny Tush One Size Diapers also have a little bit longer rise which is nice (and an extra snap size).

Keep in mind that if you plan to line dry, you'll need 3 days worth of diapers if you want to wash every other day.

I'm planning on having 24 (and washing every other day) for the 4-12 month period.

We have 12 Organic BG AIO and a couple Gro Babys. I get by doing wash every 3rd day. We do wear a disposable at night tho since I hate getting up to change a diaper. I should try out the BG's at night cause they soak up A LOT.. love them!
