new diapers - how many washes?

I'm prepping my new stash and am wondering how many times do they need to be washed and dried to become nice and absorbent?
I've washed and dried twice and tried them on my 3yo over night and he soaked through in a few hours and needed a middle of the night changeroo.

I've got pockets with a mix of bamboo, hemp and microfiber inserts.

Hemp needs to be pre-washed apart from the rest of your diapering items because it can transfer the natural oils to other fabrics. Wash and dry hemp (wash-dry-wash-dry,etc) about 4 times before using it, and it will continue to gain absorbancy for another 4 or 5 washes.

Microfiber will be fine to use as-is, though I ususally prewash once to get any residue from shipping or manufacturing off of the inserts.

I prewash the bamboo in a similar way to the hemp. (Not together though.)

Did you prewash everything together? You may need to strip the diapers and inserts. Also, when he soaked through, were the inserts soaked, or did they have dry/drier areas? If they were saturated, you may just need more absorbancy in there.
