Rude things people say

It seems like no part of parenting is free of rude comments, but do they really have to start when you announce a pregnancy? What about it shuts off the "oh, that may be hurtful" filter in people's brains?

I've had three of the people we've told say something along the lines of "Are you sure you are not 4 or 5 months along?" due to the poochy belly I still have from DD2's pregnancy. I am a slender person, well within a healthy body weight, but I carry a bit of flub in my belly, and for some reason people think that now that i am pregnant it won't hurt my feelings if they point out my weight? I expected it from my father in law (who thinks everything is fair game for joking), but from my best friend I was shocked, especially since she is someone who struggles with weight. The third person was a acquaintance (who my daughter told) and before I could tell her how far along I was, she said "Oh, I've been suspecting for a while, waiting for you to announce". At least she wasn't trying to be snippy, but it still made me want to throw a tantrum. .

Whew, sorry, I needed to vent about that somewhere. It's made me incredibly self conscious this week. With my girls' pregnancies, I had a tiny flat belly, and when i started showing it was this cute little bump. This time I already look pregnant apparently, and I am not even bloated. :

Wow, what a hurtful thing to say!

The one that gets me is when someone asks, "Are you happy about this?" Umm, if I wasn't excited, do you think I would tell you? It's not like I'm going to announce my abortion plans, FFS. I also hate when people comment on my career plans wrt my pregnancy. If I need career advice, I'm sure not going to ask you for it by telling you I'm pregnant. Gah.

I get this from my mom. She insists she knew i was pregnant before i in fact was because of the size of my stomach. Nice.

Yeah, I tell someone and they say "Is this a good thing?" I say "Of course it is!"

when I was pregnant last time my DSHS worker actually asked me "So you're not keeping IT right?" when I came in to report I was pregnant so I could get pregnancy medical... yeah... she got fired
