When I was pregnant with DS (seven + years ago) I had a top molar that just kind of fell apart on me. It's the last one on the top, and near as I can tell it cracked and pieces started falling out. Thing is, it never really bothered me or hurt. I've been to a few dentists, and while they all want to "dig" it out (did I mention I'm terrified of dentists to begin with?) the consensus has been that while it should come out someday, if it didn't hurt then it's presumably long dead and nothing critical. Seriously, there's not much left, all that's there are the remains of the 4 roots, and every year they drop down some more and are working their way out. Other than that the entire tooth is long gone.
A couple years ago, after the basic tooth was gone, I did notice that if a piece was re-cutting through or if I ate something that may have a sharp edge like chips and stabbed the area it was painful, but it would be fine in a day or so. I've kept watch for infection, etc. and it's been fine. It's been more sensitive with summer allergies, but nothing worrysome. Until yesterday.
I guess I ate something that aggrevated it, and now I'm wondering if not all the root was dead after all. Ouch. The gum around it is sore, and while I'm pretty sure the pain is coming from that tooth, I guess it's possible it's from the tooth next to it. Having this removed, if it's the issue, will be unpleasant to put it mildly and I'll be out of commission for a couple days.
Sunday is DS's birthday. We're moving in exactly 2 weeks and no where near ready. If this could wait even 3 weeks it would be SO much better. It's always passed within 24 hrs, though not been quite this bad before. And of course, it's Friday. If it needs immediate attention I'd just as soon not deal with it over the weekend, but if it will probably go back to normal by tomorrow morning, then I REALLY don't have the time to deal with this now.
Thoughts?
