Raspberry Drink - Fermented Beverages

Thread Starter
I am preparing for DD1's b-day party tomorrow afternoon. I am really wanting to offer all traditional foods, but I misread the recipe for Raspberry Drink and thought it only had to sit out for 1 day and it says 2-3. Will it still be good if it only sets out 24 hours or should I just save it for us later? If it won't be good, what ideas do you have for drinks other than soda that will satisfy those who eat SAD?

I do homemade lemonade and sweet tea- make w/ the sweetners of your choice.

Do you have any kefir grains? (And really, ones to spare?) I put milk kefir grains in plain grape juice and leave it on the counter--after 12-24 hours it is fizzy and delicious and tastes like sparkling grape juice. DELICIOUS! It's the only fermented beverage I can get into my dh, but he LOVES it!

(I ask about *spare* grains b/c they may not be able to convert back to milk once being out of it...They will absolutely turn dark purple as well.

HTH!

this is my inclination. i'm very wary of offering fermented anything to guests because i know most of them don't get any probiotics through supplements or diet on a regular basis. the last thing i want is to give someone digestive distress.

Oooo--good point!

I usually offer guests things in little glasses or condiment sized portions w/ a warning that it might 'get things moving'! Glad you mentioned this!

Not tryint to hijack your post at all, but mama, can you continue to make this grape fizzy drink with the grains more than once?? I have tons of extra grains and nothing to do with them!

Yup--I've been told that milk grains used in non-dairy liquids will last 6 months and then will die. I've been doing this, using milk grains in various juices and coconut milk for a couple of months and they are still working for me!

SOOOOO yummy! Just made a pomegranate juice kefir and loved it too! I find the grape juice maintains the most sweetness (it's just so darn sweet!) after culturing, but other juices (like apple) can taste slightly (or very) alcoholic quickly--so watch out! Have fun experimenting!
