Part-time cloth diapering?

Hi ladies, I was wondering if I could get some input/encouragement

I had wanted to use cloth diapers for my LO, but we don't have a washer and dryer in our apartment building. We're planning to move to an apartment with an in-unit washer/dryer towards the end of September, and I'm thinking about trying to CD part-time after we move. DD will still be in 'sposies at daycare but at night and on the weekends I'd love to be able to use cloth - my brain practically explodes when I think about how wasteful disposables are!

DD will be 9 months old when we move. Has anyone had success starting to use cloth diapers with an older baby and/or only using them part-time? Any recommendations on diapers that fit skinny babies well?

You can switch to cloth diapers any time before your child is out of diapers! I started DS in cloth when he was 21mo. I had DD1 in cloth from birth, but stopped when I was pg and exhausted, then put both girls in cloth when they were 4 and 20 months old (and both fit into mediums!)

I've never done part time CDing though. I'd get myself into a routine with either one or the other, switching the diaper pail from being a trash can to a laundry hamper (or back!) It might be a little harder to establish the "half and half" routine, but it doesn't sound that hard. Use the diaper pail for cloth and either get a 2nd pail for sposies or just dump those in another trash can (such as the kitchen, where it gets dumped more frequently.) We used the kitchen pail for guests' diapers when I had my own kids in cloth.

We started when DS was about 10 months old, and he's a skinny boy too! We love our BGs - the pockets and AIOs.

Any cloth is better than no cloth.
You should be fine starting at 9 months, I can't think of a reason not too.
More than the reduced waste, you are reducing toxins next to the skin of your baby.
Not all, but some daycares will do cloth with a medical drs. excuse.
Not everyone is a lover of aplix/velcro type closures over snaps, but for skinny legs they will give you a superior fit.

Good Luck!

Most people I know in RL who cloth diaper do it part time. Starting at 9 months is fine. I know that your baby seems so old now, but realistically you've got around 2 years of diapering left.

Have you asked the daycare about cloth? The one I used to work in didn't have a problem with it.

Can't recommend anything for skinny babies, mine was a chunk!

We cloth diaper part time (when home, sometimes when out) and LOVE fitteds and BG AIOS.

We were full time cd'ers until our dryer broke and my stash was too small to air dry all the time. Since then we have used disposables and I have even wasted money on the g-diaper. But...we just got a new washer/dryer : last weekend, so we should be full time again soon : . It doesn't have to be all or nothing, as pp have said.
