MW out of town, Full Term, what?! - Page 2

I would be VERY upset. Not so much about her not telling you she was gone, but that you would be expected to pack up and move to a different location with absolutely no notice. After you arranged everything else who's to say you wouldn't end up having the baby in the car? Or going through transition in the car? (BTDT, not a good experience.) Things happen and it's good that she had backup, but you should have been told about that backup!
I'm sorry I don't have any good advice, but if you do go into labor tonight/tomorrow I would stay put. It's not that much of an extra drive for a the midwife but it is a big deal for you. You know, as the laboring woman and all.

I was in transition in the car with my DS. Worst 15 minutes of an otherwise wonderful labor, birthed in a hospital. I knew to wait until waaaay late to get there to avoid all the crap.

That said, my MW is back in town. The backup called this morning to check in. My MW called a few hours later saying she knew we had an appt tomorrow, but thought she'd just see how I was doing anyway. Told her my BH have picked up a ton, at night especially. Anyway, we'll see her soon. I think a close friend is very sick with cancer. But still have the same oppinion and feelings on the fair warning thing. But, it didn't happen. Yay! I am getting more prepared by the hour. Was sitting on the birth ball to type this, but too much pressure! Gotta get off this chair now, too. Soon, baby, soon!
