Finally!!!!!

Dear Sarah and Suzy,

After many weeks of searching websites like Maarktplaats, I found a really nice flat in the Pijp at the intersection on Rustenburgerstraat next to V D Helstplein. We are renting directly from an owner so we don't have to pay commision and such. I guess we will be moving there on the 30th of August. Since we are "expats" and only allowed to rent within the free sector, I believe we are getting a really good deal.

Now, I just need to figure out the best companies for phone, energy and gas, internet ect....If either of you have aany suggestions, I would love to hear.

I remember we briefly talked about second-hand shops. I am trying to decide if I should look for a table here to bring with or wait til I arrive. We need a big dining table...I like old stuff...Are there any good second-hand furniture shops in or near Amsterdam?

Hope you are both enjoying your Summer and I look forward to meeting up in Amsterdam....take care and let me know if there is anything from Germany that you would like....Remember, we will have a BIG truck, so it could be something big as well.

Hi Rachel,

I only just saw this. So you're here? How did the move go? I think the Pijp is about a 100x better choice than the place that you were looking when we met. Congratulations! Any luck with schools?

Hi Rachel, I'm planning to go to the largest thriftstore in the Amsterdam region sometime soon. It's the one in Naarden , maybe I told you about it?
It's huge
Wanna come?

OH my goodness...I really want to come along! When are you going?

I was thinking of going next tuesday, or maybe the week after on tuesday or thursday. The store opens at 9.30 and I need to be back home by half past two at the latest. Does this fit in with any of your schemes? It's approx. 15 minutes by car from where I live, but I could maybe pick you girls up somewhere?

Utilities

Hi there,

I saw your posting and figured I would congratulate you on getting a new place. I also saw that you were asking for some advise on what utilities to use. I can tell you what we use;

N. E. M. for energy. I think it's 1oo% green and the cheapest one in the NL.

Ziggo for cable tv, though I think in Amsterdam it's Casema

Xis4all internet and telephone. It's one of the more expensive ones, but they have good customer service and we've never had any problems connecting. I've had versatel, orange or wanadoo and switched from them.

Anyway, good luck and I hope this helps you make your decisions.

Sharon
