Adiri?

Thread Starter
I've been stewing over which bottle to use with my dd (for feedings while I work), arriving in November, since I'm replacing our previous Avents with BPA-free something. I've even posted here and received some good advice.

My question at the moment is about the Adiri. http://www.adiri.com/ It seems like a good idea, but I'm wondering why they have several different "levels" if BF babies usually stick with the level 0 or 1 to mimic the amount the need to suck for actual nursing. There could very well be a good reason to have different levels, though, that I'm just not aware of.

Anyone have experience with these? Are these good bottles, well researched and developed? Or are they kind of "gimmicky"?

All I know about them is from my own experience, which is that my baby had trouble latching onto them. Even though they're breast shaped, they're not as soft as a breast, and he had trouble getting his lips around the "areola" part correctly. But I think, with bottles, all babies are different and what doesn't work for one may be perfect for another. It might be best to not get too many of any one kind, in case the baby decided he/she's only gonna take one certain kind.

That's a good question about the levels- I'm curious to see what other people think. I know my baby still uses the newborn nipples on the bottles we ended up using, and he's six months old now. My husband says baby doesn't show any signs of needing/wanting a faster nipple.

It's hard to fill without leaking....
I like this article:
http://www.bfar.org/nipples-print.html

"For mothers who have decided to supplement with bottles, it is important to use nipples closest in form to the human breast. Ultrasound studies by Smith (1988) revealed that perfectly round nipples, with a broad base, best facilitate tongue and jaw motions most similar to suckling at the breast. Artificial nipples that mothers have used with success are the Avent nipple (newborn slow-flow), the Playtex Natural Shape or Natural Latch nipples, and the Evenflo Ultra or Elite. It is also best to use a nipple that is silicone, rather than latex, to protect the baby from latex allergens."

My DD absolutely refused every single bottle except for the Adiri. She loves it and drinks from it without a problem. I love it!

The Adiri is the ONLY bottle my last two sons would even touch. And my first son loved the Adiri as well.

We have never had problems with them leaking or spilling when filling them up, so long as you make sure the bottle's nipple is inside the cover properly.

They are a cinch to clean too.

The original Adiris were much softer and the babies were able to draw them in better like a breast, but they were too soft and didn't hold up well, so they redesigned them a bit firmer. It took my boys some getting used to the new design, but it was still the only bottle they ever accepted. And it keeps the latch good for breastfeeding.

Another bottle you might look at is the Breastflow - also a great design that mimics breastfeeding well - Baby sucks and compresses to get the milk out. We had this one awhile until we switched over to the Adiris, mostly because of ease of use.

Oh yeah, and our boys used the white bottles (slowest flow) for a looooong time. The blue bottles (medium flow) drowned them! We never used the orange bottles. No need - way too fast.

PS - Adiri has excellent customer service. When the bottles first came out, I sent in my opinions/concerns/criticism, etc., and each time they sent me new bottles and called back for my thoughts. Then when the newer ones came out they sent me a survey with a "reward" of still another free bottle. So, I own 6 Adiris and only paid for 2!

Subbing. We are also considering the Adiri but comparing to the Breastflow. Not due to go back to work for a few months as our babe won't be here for a little while but I'm crazy about researching everything ahead of time. Like to save my pennies.

We're trying to get my 2 month old to take a bottle here/there. We've tried the breastflow (NEAT bottle), but he won't take it. The only bottle we've had success with 2x is a Playtex drop-ins bottle.
