Anyone have a pomerian/minatature australian shepard mix ?

My rescue is having a puppy this mix there and I wanted to find some information about this mix breed before I got him.

We do have a cat whose 3 yrs of age who is a lazy cat and all he does is sleep .

So I'm just wanting to know what personality would that puppy be around a cat as the dog would proably grow bigger than the cat one day more of a medium size .

I'm home all the time mostly and I can definetly give him lots of exercise.

Miniature aussies are any aussie under 18 inches, and are generally between 25-35 lbs. Add in the Pom, the dog won't be very big either way.

Poms can have a prey drive, but not all do. Almost never with cats. My mom's pom was best buddies with my rats. My friend's pom killed her rat. You just never know. Herding breeds have a "chase" drive. They will often chase cats, but will almost never hurt them.

I'd say this dog would probably be pretty cat safe.

Might be a little neurotic though . Poor breeding is making pomeranians kinda crazy. And aussies need tons of mental stimulation in addition to physical.

Oh, and there will probably be barking, lots of barking.

While I've never had either breed as a pet, I've seen both (if we're calling the mini aussie a 'breed') as patients. They're both high energy breeds, that have a definite tilt towards hyperactivity. Depending on how deep the aussie's herding drive is, the puppy may be an annoyance to the cat, the trick will be creating and maintaining boundaries.

A great start is "Good Owners, Great Dogs", a well written book that you can usually pick up at the library. I've recommended it over the years to clients, and have seen great results.

Best of luck to you!!
