1 yo may have retracted himself a little; bleeding- help?

Hi all,

My 12 month old son was playing with himself (as usual!) today. He manges to even do it with a diaper on, LOL. Anyway, when I went to change his diaper I noticed that the tip of his penis was bleeding a little bit. Is this normal? And, is there anything special I should do to take care of it while it is healing? I'm worried.

Thanks!

My son has done this a couple times, totally normal. My ds also LOVES to play with himself. You can put a little Bacitracin on the tip if it still looks red and keep him diapered until all healed up. My son usually takes about 3-4 days to heal when he does something like this. Here is a helpful thread:

I always use some gentle skin healing salve that I get at the health food store. Any brand will work. I always look for some that have calendula. Any diaper cream should be fine too.

I seem to recall that bacitracin is not recommended on genitals but I may not be remembering that right.

Bacatracin is the one that is recommended it is neosporin that is not.

I agree wtith the pp's put a little something on there to aid healing and chances are he will be more carefull next time. Make sure to keep his nails trimmed the best you can. I know those things grow extremely fast lol

If there are signs of a bacterial infection use bacatracn, not neosporin. Though not universal, you will meet people who will tell you it worked fine, some people tend to react to neosporin on genitles.

However, if it looks like it is healing well with no signs of redness, I would skip the bacatracin, since it can cause an imbalance in the natural flora leading to a yeast over growth.

Thanks for the correction. I knew it was one of those.
Since using natural skin healing salves, I've never ever needed a topical antibiotic cream ever...in like over 20 years!

When i worked on the organic farm, we used to make out own. I should still make it. I can grow all the stuff except for goldenseal and really, that's only needed in major issues, not every day scrapes and irritations.

I wish there where places around me where I could get stuff like that but all we have is wal mart. *sigh*

I would use them if I had them first.

Thanks all... I didn't even end up using anything, just kept an eye on it at changes and it looked better within hours.... maybe it was just a little scratch or something.
