I used to have great success at meal planning this way and I was able to be very frugal. I could use what was on sale to plan. It gave me structure while leaving things somewhat open. I am going to go back to this. I just found these in my old home management binder that I used when we lived in Vermont.
Breakfasts-
S-cereal or oatmeal
M-peanut butter toast, milk, fruit
T-cereal
W-toast with jelly, milk
T-Oatmeal
F-special item such as pancakes, muffins or baked oatmeal
S-eggs and toast
Lunches-
S-Leftovers or choice
M-Sandwiches, fruit, milk or juice
T-Macaroni and cheese, carrots, juice
W-Sandwiches, chips/pretzels, juice or fruit
T-Noodle or pasta dish, fruit, milk
F-Sandwiches, pretzels/chips, juice
S-Leftovers or choice
Dinners-
S-Crock pot or casserole
M-Pasta meal with salad and/or bread
T-Pizza or calzones, salad
W-Chicken, rice/potatoes, vegetable
T- Try a new recipe or an old favorite
F-We used to go out to eat but we really can not afford that so I will make this kids' choice night
S-Bean dish or Southwestern
