I may be joining you!

I would never have believed it in 100 years but dh has agreed to look into doing a homebirth! He actually suggested it last night at dinner.

I am so excited/nervous/scared!

His only reservation in that he had 2 very ill siblings and worries that we might have one. But I feel comfortable in a good hcp's hands. So far we have 3 healthy kids.

His sister was born with a "twisted heart" and had many problems as a baby but actually had a homebirth herself 14 years ago....she wasn't that worried... His parents were both heavy smokers who died young of cancer so I have always thought that may have had to do with his sibling's conditions.

I have so many questions and I will be reading over this board. Any good book recommendations for prep?

Some practical questions:

I am in Ohio, do we have CPMs?

Is it legal to have a homebirth with an attendant????

Should I get a copy of my med records to show any midwives we meet with?

Do you interview mws?

How do I find a midwife?

I will look around in the mean time but TIA for all of your help and support!

Congratulations! Check out homebirth helpful resources -- there's some great information. One good book is "Your Best Birth" by Rikki Lake. Also, "Gentle Birth Choices" is great.

Looks like CPMs might not be licensed in OH, but (like many other states where they're "illegal") they bravely practice nevertheless. Homebirth is never illegal; attending one might be (so she would be breaking the law, not you).

To find one, you might want to start in the OH section of "Finding Your Tribe" on this site...other mamas might have local recommendations for you.

There's an "interviewing midwives" sticky at the top of this forum.

Good luck! Home birth is wonderful--it'll be the best decision you can make!
