Bleeding 16 days post partum?

I am 16 days post partum, and I'm still having fairly heavy bleeding (I go through 3-4 pads a day). It is mostly brown, but occasionally it is still bright red. From what I've read, I expected the bleeding to be gone by now. I don't remember how long it lasted after my first. Is this normal?

My PP bleeding lasted 3 weeks with both of my babes. Don't remember when the color changed. I don't think 16 days is all that long. I'm sure others will chime in.

Well, I bled heavy for about 6 weeks with my first two I really think that it is different for everyone. i was up and doing stuff super early (like after a few days) with them though.

Tomorrow I will be 2 weeks postpartum and I am still bleeding rather heavily. Mine also alternates between brown and bright red and sometimes is very heavy and sometimes is barely there. I keep thinking it is finally slowing up only for it to return full force. My midwife says that I should still be taking it easy but I feel so good otherwise - and with a toddler to take care of also, I don't really have the opportunity to relax much.

I am hoping it will end soon. From my understanding, this can go on for weeks, though, so I am just taking it day to day! :

I bled 5-6 weeks with previous babies, this one seems like it will be letting up earlier. My last midwife said it is a good guage of whether or not you are resting enough-- if the bleeding increases you are doing too much. I would think if there is a return of bright red, that might be a similar indication that you need to be a little less active.

8 weeks with my first, and more like 4 weeks this time, though it was more like spotting at the end.

I bled for about 6 weeks with my daughter. It CAN last that long.

yep to what everyone said. I bled for like a month with my first. This time I'm already slowing down at 1 week PP, I think the gallons and gallons of RRL tea might have helped? Not sure, but bleeding that long is definitely normal!

Thank you so much for your reassuring replies. It's funny because my pregnancy books and the internet make it sound like it should be letting up by the end of 2 weeks. I'm sure those of you who mentioned doing too much are right. I have a toddler too, and as much as I would love to be reclining in a rocker all day, I don't quite manage that - though I am being careful not to lift anything too heavy. Anyway, thanks again. I feel much better now and will just wait it out patiently.

DD will be 4 weeks old this Sunday, and I am still bleeding

Everything I've read says that, like everything else w/ pregnancy and birth, it varies from woman to woman. I think one of the books I have says 2-8 weeks is totally normal.

I remember reading that when I had my ds, and I was like...just watch, I'll be one of those "8 week" moms. Yup, I was.

This time, I don't think it will last as long, but I'm 2 weeks pp now and while it's lighter, it's still there.
