Great Read alound books for 5yo?

My 5 yo son loves being read to. My sister just gave me a copy of SkippyjonJones by Judy Schachner and we all just loved it. It was so much fun to read, so light and funny. Every time we read it we laugh.

Does anyone have some recommendations for other great read alound books?:

Cassandra's Angel is my absolute favorite book for children. It's beautifully illustrated and the message is awesome. It's a very long poem, so it's very lyrical as well. I can't say how much I love this book!

Kids LOVE Why Mosquitoes Buzz In People's Ears. Circular stories are usually favorites.

Inch by Inch, by Leo Lionni.
Chicka Chicka Boom
Kitten Moon, by Kevin Henkes
Bill and Pete, by Tomie dePaola.

All of these are funny and cute. He'll love them.

Dick King-Smith's books would be good if your LO likes animals and you guys aren't disturbed by people eating animals.

We're enjoying the Olga da Polga books by Michael Bond - about an adventurous guinea pig.

I am not a fan of the Skippyjohn series, so please take my recommendations with this in mind :

Books my current almost 5 yr. old enjoys (and I don't tire of reading repeatedly) are: My Lucky Day by Keiko Kasza, Frog and Toad series and anything by Satoshi Kitamura

We love to read here! Anything by Dr. Seuss is a hit here. Shel Silverstein is fun for reading aloud, too.

There are lots of threads like this - if you search you'll get loads of ideas.

I just want to add our favourite: Henry and Mudge books, by Cynthia Rylant.

There are SO many great ones. I want to put in a plug for a wonderful book that's mostly forgotten now -- The Little Brute Family, by Russell Hoban (also wrote the wonderful and much better-known Frances series -- I recommend them too!).

DS loves magic tree house. He goes to this series first when looking for books in the library.

I second Shell Silverstein (although some of the poems can be a little dark for our tastes) and Jack Prelutsky (slightly lighter in my opinion). Both authors make us giggle and are great for imagination and vocabulary building.

I second or third the recommendations for Shel Silverstein, Dr. Seuss, and Russell Hoban. (Another great Russell Hoban one is How Tom Beat Captain Najork and His Hired Sportsmen. A five year old is probably just getting old enough to enjoy that, but it's even funnier if you're older.)
