Fleece or microfiber DIY?

Historically speaking, my kids (all in disposables up until this point) have had frequent diaper rashes. Hopefully with this babe in CDs I won't have that problem because I know you have to be careful what you put on rashes when using CDs, (I guess coconut oil is safe for the dipes)? But what if I bought some cheap microfiber towels from the dollar store and cut them to line inside the prefolds? Or bought some discount fleece and used that? Might those help prevent rashes in the first place? Anyone have some cheap, super easy, no-sew techniques for creating a bit of a barrier between a baby and a wet dipe? I realize the best idea is to change them immediately when they pee, but honestly, a single mom with four kids, that's probably not realistic.

Microfiber is not supposed to touch their skin. I'm not totally sure why...

I'd say fleece would be a good bet. You just cut it- no sewing required, because it doesn't fray. It keeps the skin feeling drier than cotton, so it could help with the rash, maybe.
There are some rash creams to totally stay away from, even if using a liner. I found a list of rash creams that are ok once- if you're interested, I'll see if I can find it again.

ETA- here's the list. I just came across it:

i'm interested in thst list! do you know if you need a liner if using oil-based preps, like the one motherlove makes?

if you have a child that is already prone to sensitivities I would stay away from the micro's and the polymers. Natural fibers and air.
some children tolerate fine -- the other 50% don't.
Might want to read up on polymers in fabrics if you have some time.

Changing often, even if not after every pee, is really the best preventative. Getting lots of naked-bum time is also a big help. Before the baby starts moving around a lot you can plop him/her on a big prefold, towel, or cotton receiving blanket forsome time each day. we did lots, because we were doing EC, but I think even our mainstream pediatrician recommended an hour or so daily. It's easier in the afternoon when they pee less often.

The other thing you can do is to just skip the waterproof cover when you're around the house.

Microfiber against the skin causes rashes. I tried it and sure enough only one use and she had a bad rash.

I use coconut oil with calendula for rashes and it seems to wash out of the diapers fine. You can also put a square of flannel between them and the diaper to protect the diaper. I don't like getting a ton of oil on my dipes just in case.

A fleece will keep them dryer feeling. I'd go with hemp fleece over polyester since your other kids had issues with plastic diapers. You can also shrink an old 100% wool sweater and just cut it into rectangles (no sewing required) and use that for a stay dry liner.
