New and progesterone questions

Hi everyone! We just got a BFP this morning, and are SUPER thrilled! SO, I am very happy to join the April '10 club!

It's been quite a while since I've read all my pg and midwifery books, and I'm trying to remember the details on progesterone in 1st trimester. All my stuff is packed up in mini-storage, so I'm relying on internet right now for info!

I know that I want a progesterone supplement the first trimester (5 m/c and have had low prog. in previous pg), but I can't remember if there's controversy or issues with natural vs. the typical rx? I know that in general hormone replacement, lots of women are going with natural progesterones, but I didn't know if any of those were prescribed for 1st trimester pg.

Anyone taking progesterone or up to date on the details?
THANK YOU!

(hugs) and congratulations!
Not in your DDC but had my baby in March of 09, after three miscarriages. I did the natural progesterone cream, as suggested by my dr. However, I didn't even start until 10 weeks (maybe?) and used through 20 weeks and then as needed to control contractions.

All of my miscarriages were 16 to 18 weeks though...

WELCOME! i don't know what to recommend, although when i was taking shatavari to help with O'ing, i remember reading about how one recommended use was through the 1st trimester to help prevent miscarriage. but i can't really give any advice on what is better or best

but HURRAY AND CONGRATS on your BFP!!!!

Hi, just found out today I'm expecting #5. I've had 8 miscarriages over the last 6 year. Right before my last pregnancy in 2007 I had testing done and got some info on my need for extra progesterone. I called a good midwife friend this morning and since I want a more natural vs. medical approach this time she recomended this site for natural progesterone cream. I ordered today and it should be here tomorrow or Thurs.
just google, AIM Renewed Balance Progesterone Cream.

Best Wishes, and hope this helps

Thanks everyone. I got in to see the regular doc, and got a prescription for prometrium to get me through for now. First bloodwork came back and progesterone was way low, so I'm glad I'm doing something. As soon as I get a midwife up here, I'll see what she has to recommend, too. THank you for the responses!!
